The goal of this study is to familiarize a wider professional public with not fully known procedures suitable for processing measured data in the frequency area. Described is the use of the so-called Multi-taper method to analyze the acoustic response. This transformation belongs to a group of nonparametric methods outgoing from discrete Fourier transform, and this study includes its mathematical analysis and description. In addition, the use of respective method in a specific application area and recommendations for practice are described.

Decisions by university officials not to notify a student’s parents following a suicide attempt on campus have been severely criticized by some observers. Although courts have not imposed a parental notice requirement, the practice is advantageous to students in many situations. The author recommends a system of notification that relies primarily upon nonmedical student affairs officers to collect reports and communicate with parents following a campus suicide attempt. In determining what information to communicate to parents, student affairs officers are advised to keep in mind the legal implications of the disclosure, including the possibility of a subsequent episode of selfdestructive behavior.

Although an expanding body of research demonstrates the potential benefits of telepsychology, little is known about its application with ethnoracial minority populations. Research with ethnoracial minority populations points to various factors that predict positive treatment outcomes; thus, it should be considered in multiculturally sensitive telepsychology practice. In this chapter, the authors discuss the multicultural telepsychology literature and provide recommendations for practice and research. The respective literature in multicultural psychology and telepsychology and their intersection suggest that multicultural telepsychology offers substantial promise for improving the lives of vulnerable and underserved ethnoracial minority populations by increasing access to health information and mental health treatment and reducing mental illness stigma. The chapter ends by discussing potentially fruitful avenues for research.
