Nature has blessed with natural resources like rocks / minerals, vegetation, air and water. These are about one crore eighty six lakhs living creatures existing in the world. Most of the living creatures are using their intellect and residing in the natures nest, where as human being is blessed with unique knowledge and wisdom which propelled to discover wheel, moving machineries and established good shelter with ultra architectural designs. Ancient man was living in huts further more constructed mud houses with the available clay / mud. Over a period of time man discovered calcium oxide to use in construction. In 1840s, a scientist by name William Aspdin has invented the manufacturing process of Portland cement production. Over a period of time, lot of advancements took place in producing different types of cement. During 1950’s fly ash was considered as a waste and used to land fill /dumps. Over a period of time man discovered compatible chemicals in fly ash and successful in mixing Ordinary Portland cement up to 30% which is called Pozzolana Portland cement. Several Researchers tried different waste materials to be used as a potential, concrete mix and have been successful in doing so. This paper deals in reviewing potential waste materials being used in cement concrete. Granite rocks are sliced to fine plates for the utility as flooring material. In the process of cutting and smothering the granite, fine dust of approximately 50µm is generated. Researchers discovered compatibility of granite saw dust in cement mix and were successful. Everyday hundreds and thousands of tones of plastic waste is generated. Researchers also tried to use plastic waste in civil construction and partially successful as plastic is organic in nature where as cement is inorganic in nature, nevertheless plastic waste is found as a potential mix in laying bitumen road. Limestone which consists of calcium atom and oxygen atom exists naturally in certain areas where as calcium oxide is also produced synthetically by cracking calcium carbonate at approximately 1000oC. Researchers have been successful in using calcium oxide, municipal waste in civil construction at different proportions. The optimal quality of final cement is governed by particle size and its distribution. Therefore adequate review is also done in terms of particle size, distribution and quality. The current objective of this review article is to give an insight about the sustainable technologies in cement using waste materials disposed in abundance.

The disposal of plastic wastes into the environment is a serious concern due to its limited biodegradability and production in excess quantity. The accumulation of enormous volumes of plastic waste is considered to be a major pollution problem and it is essential to find an alternate method to address such issues in an environmental-friendly and cost-effective way. The current research focused on the production of plastic cement concrete from waste polyvinyl chloride (PVC) generated from a polymer processing industry in varying proportions, and to modify the concrete properties. Polyvinyl chloride was partially replaced with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) by varying its compositions from 15% to 35% by weight (i.e. 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 35% OPC). The curing period was kept for 7 days after casting process. The produced plastic cement concrete was tested for compressive strength through Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Density and water absorption tests were also carried out on hardened concrete to assess the application of plastic cement concrete as a building material. The other characterization techniques employed are Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses. It was observed that up to 15% by weight of polyvinyl chloride could be replaced with OPC which exhibited higher compressive strength (19.25 MPa) compared to other mix proportions. A maximum density of 2.051 g/cm3 was obtained at a concrete mix composition corresponding to 25% replacement. The maximum water absorption percentage (5.86%) was observed at 35% plastic waste replacement. The studies demonstrate that the waste plastic material is considered to be a cost-effective, viable and sustainable way of reducing the environmental pollution.

The amount of plastic waste each year will increase by 10% every year which is a problem for a country. Therefore, proper processing of plastic waste needs to be done. Before being processed into plastic waste processing, it is necessary to have a chopping process using a plastic chopping machine. The plastic chopping machine has an important component, namely the chopping knife. Before carrying out the knife manufacturing process, it is necessary to validate the design of the blade that is used with its loading. Model simulation using software is one way to quickly validate the model. This study aims to determine the effect of loading variations on stress, strain, deformation and safety factors of the model. The use of ANSYS R17.2 software is used to analyze the chopping machine knife model with a variation of 5kg / hour, 10kg / hour, 20kg / hour and 50kg / hour capacities. The result is that the stress, strain and deformation parameters have an increase in value with increasing loading variations. The greatest values of stress, strain and deformation are in the variation of 50kg / hour respectively 64.995 Pa; 336.76 and 56,358 x 10-11mm. The value of the safety factor for all variations of loading has a value of 15. The value of the safety factor means that the design of the plastic chopping knife is safe to use up to a loading of 50kg / hour
