Genus Entodon Müll. Hal. (Bryophyta) in Meghalaya

<p>A recent study on the mosses of Meghalaya has revealed the occurrence of 6 taxa of the genus viz., Entodon E. concinnus (De Not.)<br />Par. ssp. caliginosus (Mitt.) Mizushima, E. rubicundus (Mitt.) Jaeg., E. luridus (Griff.) Jaeg., E. plicatus C. Muell., E. scariosus Ren. &amp;<br />Card. and E. pulchellus (Griff.) Jaeg., out of which E. concinnus (De Not.) Par. ssp. caliginosus (Mitt.) Mizushima is a new addition to<br />eastern Himalaya and E. scariosus is a new record to Meghalaya. AbstractThe recent collecting of five specimens of Atheris ceratophorus WERNER, 1895, together with an examination of material already deposited in various museums documents new records outside the Usambara Mountains to which the species had been believed to be endemic. Lepidosis and hemipenial characters have been investigated and tabulated to give an impression of the intraspecific variation. The data of the new specimens provide some information on the natural history of this species. The validity of A. nitschei rungweensis is discussed and a probable new record is given.

A new species of Platybaetis viz., P. selvai sp. nov. is described herein based on larval collections from Tangon stream in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in Eastern region of Indian Himalaya. It can be differentiated by the following combination of characters: (i) posterior margin of abdominal segments I–X with rounded ‘U’ shaped spines; (ii) anterolateral margin of gills I–VII with minute setae; (iii) claw with 7–8 denticles; (iv) paracercus composed of 10–11 segments; (v) hindwing pads reduced, small. Brief ecological notes are appended.

We present a new record of Lewis’s Woodpecker, Melanerpes lewis (Gray, 1849), a rare winter visitor to northern Mexico, in a riparian-grassland corridor at La Regina, Buenaventura Municipality, Chihuahua, on 11–12 January 2014. The record represents the fourth record of this species in the state, and the first record for both the northern portion of the Chihuahua region and the Mexican ecoregion level IV “Foothills and Plains with grasslands, xerophytic scrub and conifer oak forests”. We also comment on its current status and distribution in Mexico.

A region-specific species checklist is an important resource for biodiversity documentation and conservation. This review provides an updated mammal species checklist for the biodiversity hotspots of the Darjeeling-Sikkim landscape in Eastern Himalaya. The list was compiled by systematically reviewing 94 available publications spanning 178 years from 1841 to 2019, for mammals from the region. The species checklist is envisioned to aid in understanding the current status of mammal records, historical distribution, ranked conservation status of mammals, and research gaps. A total of 173 mammal species under 11 orders and 33 families, including the recently upgraded taxon, Sikkim Pika Ochotona sikimaria was enlisted. There are 25 species included in the IUCN threatened categories, 58 species listed in the CITES Appendices, and 112 species included in the schedules of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 in India. Although mammals receive the maximum research attention in the landscape, small mammals and bats have rarely been subjected to systematic studies in recent years.

The species Stellaria umbellata is reported as a new record for the western Himalayan flora.  Critical examination of the species in nature, Indian herbaria, online herbaria and protologue confirmed its identity as Stellaria umbellata.  Earlier, it was erroneously identified in the western Himalaya as Stellaria subumbellata or Holosteum umbellatum.  This species was previously not reported from the western, central or eastern Himalaya and thus, it is also a new record for the flora of the Himalaya.

Lejeunea minutiloba A. Evans has been identified in Eastern Ghats region of Tamil Nadu which is a new record for South India. It was earlier reported from Brazil, Bermuda, Cuba, North America, Puerto Rico (Mona Island), ST. Thomas, West Indies and from Eastern Himalaya in India. The taxon is characterized by highly reduced obsolete lobules, small marginal cells of leaf lobe, non connate bracts and bracteole and occurrence of clavate as well as ovoid - oblong perianth exhibiting an interesting transitional morphoform with an affinity with L. cladogyna A. Evans.
