With the continuous development of the mining industry, the world’s major mines have gradually entered the intelligent stage. In intelligent underground mines, the operation roads of the underground transportation equipment are very complicated, and the monitoring and control of the underground traffic have become the problems to be solved in the intelligent underground mines. Therefore, on the basis of solving the practical problems of underground mines, the concept paper discusses the possibility of the communication-based train control (CBTC) system being applied to underground mines through the summary and induction of the related literature. As mining engineers, we have proposed the function design for the CBTC system to solve the problems in underground mine rail transportation, but we still need to continue to work hard for the future development of the underground mines. The concept paper serves as a guide to the Tossing out a brick to get a jade gem, and it has implications for the development and the future of underground mine transportation.

The common problem was studied concerning the personnel safety and the operation of railway transport during industrial cargo transportation. Statistical and technical analysis were conducted related to the conditions and reasons of railway accidents caused by various hazardous factors and occurred over the past 15 years in the mining industry of Russia. The study based on natural, technical, and organizational factors showed that there is a steady tendency towards the preservation of the number of accidents such as train collisions, fires, and derailments. Despite the measures taken, such accidents do occur resulting in fatal accidents. The situation is explained by the fact that safety of rail transport is conditioned by the factors that can be divided into difficult-to-control and complex (coordinated by action). The differences between complex factors caused by the railway technology and difficult-to-control factors, which include natural factors or their combination with the stimulated factors are studied in the article. Study of the evidence including the details of the development of fires and derailments of trains from the rails, the consequences of such accidents and conclusions about their causes shows that the additional calculations and classification of the difficult-to-control factors in combination with other causes allow to give a more detailed assessment of the nature of difficult-to-control factors and the interrelationship between them. Through this it becomes possible to detect the maximum number of violations. It is concluded that improving railway safety is possible only with a differentiated approach to the role of each group of factors including difficult-to-control factors, and the ability of personnel to influence the occurrence and development of accidents. The time characteristics of railway accidents are considered. The idea of automated information filtering of clogged messages in the analysis of accidents is formulated.

In order that the industrial safety audit at hazardous operation objects becomes a source of reliable information, it is required to develop the appropriate regulations and procedures. Inasmuch as Rostekhnadzor has aimed to cancel obligatory expertise of industrial safety, the function of the approval testing, at least to a certain degree, can be given to auditing. This article discusses two auditing scenarios: in case of systematic safety expertise at hazardous production objects and in case of no such expertise undertaken. A procedure is proposed, which allows control over conformance of actual performance specifications of rail transportation stock at an open pit mine to the industrial safety requirements in the frameworks of the safety audit. The procedure includes sampling braking tests, or the comparison of the actual braking performance indices of trains in the most hazardous sections of track with the braking parameters from the dynamic calculations. The method developed at the Institute of Mining, Ural Branch RAS enables taking into account the specific type of braking equipment, is based on the actual physical values and features higher accuracy. The case-studies of the braking test procedures and modeling are given.

Environmental vibration problem caused by rail transport is always a crucial problem for the development of rail transport harmoniously and favorably. Lots of legislations have formulated to constrain this problem in many countries, however, most of them are worked out based on the analysis results and measured data from only single rail line. With the further development of rail transportation in China, more and more engineering will cross the others inevitably, which will cause a more complicated problem with multi-vibration source. And obviously, the multi-vibration source problem is not the linear superposition of several single vibration source problems. Focusing on two being planned overlapping shield tunnels, the computation model is established and the environmental vibration is calculated and analyzed by considering the running mode and running number of subway train. Fitting analysis is conducted and empirical formulas for vibration attenuation and then, the vibration range is determined accordingly. The research results in the paper can provide guide for the pre-design of overlapping engineering and also can offer references for the completion of relative legislations.
