This care report presents a 51-year-old woman patient with a cyst-like mass in the liver. The proliferated histiocytes, with the eosinophilic nucleolus, occasionally showing lymphophagocytosis (emperipolesis) positively for CD68 protein S-100 were reported in the pathological study, and the plasma cells were positive for CD138, consistent with Rosai-Dorfman disease.

AbstractRosai-Dorfman disease is a benign lymphoproliferative disease with rare occurrence in the overall population. The characteristic findings of the disease are emperipolesis on microscopy and S-100 protein positivity on immunohistochemistry. The present report describes the case of a 57-year-old man who presented with repeated seizures, urinary retention, and ataxia. Satisfactory results were obtained with surgical treatment. The diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemistry.

Russell bodies are accumulation of immunoglobulin in plasma cells forming intracytoplasmic inclusions. Russell body colitis is rare with only 3 cases described in the English literature up to date. We report a 78-year-old male with cirrhosis showing prominent cecal infiltration of Russell body containing plasma cells. Plasma cells showed no nuclear atypia or mitoses, and no evidence of light chain restriction. In this article, we report a fourth case of Russell body colitis, that is unique in being localized to the cecum in contrast to the other 3, 1 of which was in an inflammatory polyp in the sigmoid colon, 1 in a rectal tubulovillous adenoma and 1 as part of diffuse gastrointestinal disease. This is therefore the first report of localized Russell body typhlitis, occurring in a cirrhotic patient in whom an adjacent erosion was likely nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug-associated, a combination that may have facilitated the formation of Russell bodies.

Background: Although hemorrhages associated with cervical and thoracic intraspinal schwannomas are typically localized to the subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH) or subdural hemorrhages (SDH) compartments, rare intratumoral bleeds may also occur. Methods: In the literature, we found and analyzed multiple factors for 13 cases (e.g., epidemiological, clinical, and pathological) of cervical schwannomas with intratumoral hemorrhages (ITH). We added the 14th case of a 35-year-old female with along segment cervical schwannoma with ITH who presented with acute quadriplegia and respiratory decompensation. Results: These 14 patients averaged 51.77 years of age, 60% were male, and the tumor involved 2.83 segments. The incidence of SAH and ITH was noted in five cases each, while SDH’s were very rare. The pathological characteristics were consistent with the diagnosis of cellular schwannomas with S-100 positivity. The clinical outcomes were good (100%) in all the cases, including the one presented (modified McCormick score III). Conclusion: Cervical schwannomas with ITH are rare, and the surgical outcomes in such patients are good-excellent (>90%). The histopathology is always of prime importance and decisive in establishing and confirming the etiology of such ITH.
