The purpose of this study was to develop a higher order thinking skill (HOTS) based test instrument on salt hydrolysis for senior high school students. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) using the Plomp model which consists of three stages, namely Preliminary Research, Prototyping Stage and Assessment Phase. The test instrument was validated by 7 experts, namely 4 chemistry lecturers of FMIPA UNP, and 3 chemistry teachers using a validation questionnaire. The small group trial was carried out by 6 students and the field test was carried out by 26 students of Senior High School number 1 in Padang. The data analysis technique for content validity uses Lawshe's CVR and the construct validity uses the aiken’s formula. The results showed that the instrument developed had good characteristics in terms of logical validity with a content validity index (CVI) of 0.841 and a construct validity of 0.82. The reliability coefficient of 0.89 is very high. The analysis of discriminating power showed 16 items had very good distinguishing quality, 4 items had good distinguishing quality, 4 items had moderate distinguishing quality. The difficulty index for 88% of the questions is categorized as medium. The correlation of the item score with a significant total score was 21 items. The dictator function on all items is effective. The data obtained shows that the test instrument based on higher order thinking skills (HOTS) on salt hydrolysis material for senior high school students is valid and has good item quality.

Dengan demikian, PhysTHOTS memenuhi syarat digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi fisika peserta didik SMA.Kata kunci: pengembangan instrumen, tes kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi, fisika, politomus, dan PCM ______________________________________________________________ DEVELOPING HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL TEST OF PHYSICS (PhysTHOTS) FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTSAbstrak The objectives of this research were to develop an instrument for measuring senior high school students’ physics higher order thinking skills (PhysTHOTS) and to obtain the characteristics of the PhysHOTS. The instrument blue print was developed based on the aspects and sub-aspects of high order thinking skills, then it was used to develop the items. Two sets of instrument consisting of 26 items and each, including eight anchor items were then validated by promotors, measurement experts, physics specialists, physics education experts, and practitioners. The validated instruments were then tried out on 1,001 students of ten senior high schools throughout Special Province of Yogyakarta. The polytomous data were analyzed according to the Partial Credit Model (PCM). The results show that the 44 items and PhysTHOTS were fit to the PCM,  the reliability of the test  was 0.95, the items’ difficulty indexes were between -0.86 and 1.06. Therefore, the PhysTHOTS are qualified to measure senior high school students’ physics higher order thinking skills. Keywords: instrument development, physics test of higher order thinking skills,  polytomous, and PCM

One of the most frequently observed explanations in misconceptions is conceptual understanding. This research aimed to determine the senior high school students’ conceptual understanding of Newton’s laws in outer space. The researchers assumed that the research results would be rich in variation by elaborating the item questions based on the precise step of Digital Story Conceptual Change-Oriented as a learning medium.  The researchers researched State Senior High School 5 Yogyakarta. The participants of this study consisted of 91 students. The applied instruments were fifteen two-tier multiple-choice items. The researchers also used a non-test instrument, namely an interview sheet. The researchers found related misconceptions in Newton’s law in outer space during the research. It was found that 30% of students experienced misconceptions. The results are important for the learning process that through identification, teachers could use strategy to explain the materials.
