The purpose of this paper is to explore the perception of Information Technology (IT) fresh graduates on employability in Vietnam. The research is based on primary data from responses in in-depth interviews from 10 fresh graduates working in the IT industry for at least 3 months. A generic qualitative approach and the employability framework of Hillage & Pollard guide this research. Interview protocol is also provided for semi-structured interviews. The findings show a strong awareness of employability among fresh graduates in terms of the assets they own like knowledge, skill, attitudes; deployment; presentation; and context of the labor market. However, the findings also point out a huge area of knowledge and soft skills which need improvement to enhance graduates’ employability. They are advanced IT knowledge, cross-sector knowledge, and a lot of soft skills such as presentation skill, communication skill, management skill, problem solving skill, logical and critical thinking skill, self-study skill, information search-skill, asking question skill, foreign language skill, and adaptation skill. The study provides valuable implications to employers, educators and new young employees in fresh graduates’ employability enhancement by pointing out weak areas for improvement.

Organizations function as social systems where human resources are the most vital factors for performance and success. They have realized the need for a motivated and diverse set of employees to achieve milestones at an accelerated pace. At the same time, women in the male-dominated information technology industry are perceived to face unique challenges and use distinct coping strategies affecting their motivation and retention. Both primary and secondary data was collected for the research work. Secondary data was collected from journals, newspapers, magazines on the subject and the internet sources. Primary data was collected from the IT professionals of both genders. The primary instrument for data collection was a survey through structured questionnaire (see Appendix). The method used in the study was random sampling. Collected data was processed, analyzed, and interpreted to draw the valid inferences. Gender perspectives on motivating factors, changes in HR policies for IT professionals, strategy and tactics are suggested to address the situation.

The phrase 'knowledge economy' has acquired currency as powerful as the adjective 'modern' once had. This paper explores the meaning of knowledge-based economy from the perspective of the South and traces the rise of the information sciences and the interplay between information technology and the present globalisation. Particular consideration is given to who is included and who is excluded in this new world order. Being involved in education, the authors are concerned to examine the track record of computer-based applications to education and the prospects for these to achieve the much elusive productivity gains in this field. The paper concludes with an outline of possible directions for the local information technology industry in relations to education.
