Traffic congestion has a significant impact on quality of life and the economy. This paper presents a decentralised traffic management mechanism for intersections using a distributed constraint optimisation approach (DCOP). Our solution outperforms the state of the art solution both for stable traffic conditions (about 60% reduced waiting time) and robustness to unpredictable events.

Abstract Facial asymmetry is a condition that compromises function and social interactions and, consequently, the quality of life. Orthodontic-surgical treatment may be indicated to achieve a stable occlusion and significant improvement in facial aesthetics. The virtual planning of the maxillary, mandibular and chin movements can be done prior to surgery. These movements can be successfully performed with the use of prototyped guides obtained from virtual planning. The aim of this article is to show the state of the art of treatments of facial asymmetries, and emphasize how important is the multi-disciplinary approach to achieve predictable aesthetic and functionally stable results in a patient with facial asymmetry and chin protrusion.

The authors summarized the state of the art on diagnosis and treatment patients suffering of tinnitus (ringing in the ear). The diversity of views for the treatment of these patients, often mutually exclusive, the abundance of literature with questionable reliability of excellent results, new trends in diagnosis and, of course, prevalence (at least 0.5-1% of the population has tinnitus impairing the quality of life) were the factors that led the authors to address the topic The monograph is intended for the doctors on postgraduate education and ENT specialists.

Adenoidectomy is one of the most common procedures, especially in the pediatric population. When accurately performed, it can cause significant changes in the quality of life of the patient, with minimum risks. Today, the surgeon has a large variety of surgical technologies available for this intervention, from the classical cold steel technique to the state of the art advancements, such as radiofrequency or coblation. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the advantages that are provided by coblation adenoidectomy, taking into account the duration of the intervention, the safety, and efficacy of the procedure and the postoperative pain. We consider all of these factors to be important, especially considering the difficult choice the surgeon faces in choosing the best technology for each patient.
