The bee fly Toxophora aurea Macquart is reported for the first time in Argentina. One single specimen of this species was reared from a nest of Isodontia costipennis (Spinola) (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae) in the province of Formosa and others were captured in southern Misiones province, and others housed in entomological collections from the provinces Chaco, Santiago del Estero and Santa Fe. Data about the biology of Toxophora leucon Séguy from individuals reared in nests of Cyphomenes anisitsii (Brèthes), Pachodyneurs guadulpensis (Saussure) and Zethus dicomboda (Spinola) (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae) in the province of Formosa are also reported. These are the first data about the reproductive ecology of these parasitic flies in Argentina.

Leptalpheus lirai sp. nov., a new species of symbiotically living, infaunal alpheid shrimp, is described based on a single specimen from the Gulf of Santa Fe, Sucre, Venezuela. The new species belongs to an informal group of nine species within the genus Leptalpheus Williams, 1965, which is characterised by the presence of well-developed adhesive disks on the major chela. In addition, Leptalpheus axianassae Dworschak & Coelho, 1999 and Fenneralpheus chacei Felder & Manning, 1986 are recorded for the first time from Venezuela (Anzoátegui and Sucre, respectively), the latter also representing the first record of the genus Fenneralpheus Felder & Manning, 1986 for the country. These records bring to 11 the number of alpheid genera, and to four the number of species of Leptalpheus, known in Venezuelan marine waters.

Naso vlamingii (Valenciennes, 1835) is reported from Korea for the first time and a morphological description is provided. A single specimen of N. vlamingii was collected from the southeastern coast of Jeju Island, Korea in September 2017. This species is characterized by the presence of 2 bony plates on the middle of the caudal peduncle, 6 dorsal and 2 anal fin spines, and a rounded, convex, swollen snout. This species is the fifth species of the genus Naso Lacepède, 1801 in the Korean fish fauna, and the newly proposed Korean name for the species is “Keun-ko-pyo-mun-jwi-chi”.

A new genus of gnaphosid spiders, Almafuerte, gen. nov., is described for seven species from Southern South America. The new genus is diagnosed by a conspicuous retrolateral tegular projection on the male palp, and by having three teeth on the cheliceral retromargin. It comprises six species from Argentina, A. peripampasica sp. nov. (type species), from Central Argentina, also present in Uruguay, A. kuru sp. nov., from Santiago del Estero, A. vigorosa sp. nov., from Corrientes, A. goloboffi sp. nov., from Salta and Jujuy, A. remota sp. nov., from Santiago del Estero and Mendoza, and A. giaii (Gerschman & Schiapelli) comb. nov., here transferred from Echemus, from Santa Fe (the female is here described by the first time); and one species from Bolivia, A. facon sp. nov., from Cochabamba. Hypotheses of relationships of the new taxa are briefly discussed, in the context of the previously proposed groupings: the subfamilies Echeminae and Drassodinae (sensu Platnick 1990) and the “Echemus group” (sensu Murphy 2007).

Abstract Propagurus haigae (McLaughlin, 1997), a relatively large-sized species of Paguridae, is reported for the first time from Japanese waters based on a single specimen collected from a depth of 620 m off Ie Island, central Ryukyu Islands, southwestern Japan. It is the third species of the genus Propagurus McLaughlin & de Saint Laurent, 1998 known from Japanese waters. The present specimen greatly extends the distribution range of P. haigae, because the previous northernmost record was the Molucca Sea in Indonesia.

The larva of Peristicta aeneoviridis Calvert, 1909 is described for the first time, based on material from Misiones Province, Argentina. It differs from the rest of the larvae described for the genus in the shape and coloration of caudal lamellae, femur setae, lacinia teeth and coloration patterns. Seeing that Glossina morsitans, the typical “tsetse” fly of writers on South Africa, has been well known for perhaps a longer period than any other member of the genus, it is a matter for great surprise that much of its life history is yet entirely unknown. A large mass of literature, dealing with its general habits, is extant, but the breeding habits and the larva have not been described. It is noteworthy that only last year a single specimen of the puparium was discovered for the first time, and when the wide distribution, the great plentitude, and the economic importance of the fly are considered, this becomes all the more remarkable.

The recently described alpheid genus Triacanthoneus Anker, 2010 is reassessed based on new material from the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Panama, and the southern Gulf of Mexico. Salmoneus armatus Anker, 2010 is tentatively transferred to Triacanthoneus and the latter genus is redefined. A new eastern Pacific species of Triacanthoneus is described based on a single specimen collected by scuba diving off Coiba Island on the Pacific coast of Panama. Triacanthoneus blanca sp. nov. is closely related to its only eastern Pacific congener, T. pacificus Anker, 2010, which is reported for the first time from the Las Perlas Islands in the Gulf of Panama. Morphological variation in T. toro Anker, 2010 is discussed on the basis of new topotypical material from Bocas del Toro, Panama, and a single specimen tentatively reported as T. cf. toro from Sisal, Mexico. An identification key to the seven currently known species of Triacanthoneus, with updated distributional and ecological information, as well as high-resolution colour photographs of four species are also provided.

Moringua edwardsi is recorded for the first time at Atol das Rocas, northeastern Brazil. Previous records of the species were located in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida to southeastern Brazil, but with many gaps between these regions. A single specimen was collected in Atol das Rocas in July 2007 and it is deposited in the Dias da Rocha Ichthyological Collection. The new record of M. edwardsi fills a geographic distribution gap of this species and complements the inventory of fish species inhabiting one of the most unique marine protected areas in the world.
