Tuberculosis (TB) is an essential problem for healthcare systems especially in developing countries. TB continues to pose a significant global health burden [1]. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is an important vaccine used to prevent Tuberculosis (TB), especially meningeal TB and disseminated TB disease in children [2]. BCG is prepared from live bovine tuberculosis bacillus, and is given to protect against TB. Although vaccination against TB by means of BCG is widespread all over the world and is generally considered to be safe, but serious adverse reactions can occur. These may be minor such as abscess formation or skin ulceration at the site of vaccination to major adverse reaction such as fatal disseminated infection especially in patients with immune deficiency [3]. These adverse reactions after BCG vaccination depend on the BCG dose, vaccine strain, vaccine administration method, injection technique, and recipient’s underlying immune status [4]. The aim of this case report is to point out that clinical suspicion of BCG-induced osteomyelitis is warranted in pediatric patients with chronic symptoms of pain, limping, swelling and a limited ROM in the extremity. We also aimed to remind that imaging and culture studies may guide the clinician although tissue biopsies and genetic tests can confirm the histopathology and to review related articles.

Fractures of the supracondylar and intercondylar region of the distal femur usually result from high velocity injury that is uncommonly associated with violation of the integrity of the extensor mechanism. The consequences of missed quadriceps injury associated with a distal femur fracture are devastating. The present case report illustrates the importance of recognizing the rare association of quadriceps tear with distal femoral fractures, an appropriate surgical approach to repair the tear as well as fixation of fracture, and a protocol of postoperative rehabilitation to achieve a successful outcome.

Treatment with a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is known to be associated with oesophageal stricture in both children and adults with malignancies. However, oesophageal stricture resulting from chemotherapy alone is a rare complication, with few reports on it. We experienced a rare paediatric case of oesophageal stricture caused by chemotherapy for osteosarcoma of the left distal femur. After completion of the chemotherapy course, the patient showed dysphagia caused by the oesophageal stricture and underwent balloon dilatation for the oesophageal stricture. After balloon dilatation, he was able to ingest solid foods, and the oesophagus was normal without any strictures at the last follow-up (20 months after ballooning). Therefore, oesophageal stricture should be considered as a complication of treatment with chemotherapy alone in children with malignancies.

Bullous drug eruptions such as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) are rare but known adverse reactions of fluoroquinolones. Although uncommon, TEN can be life-threatening for the patient, especially in the context of delayed treatment and in fragile patients such as the pediatric population. In the present case, TEN occurred in a 13-year-old girl with no medical history following initiation of ciprofloxacin treatment for an inguinal cyst. We hope that the case report will make interrogate the practices concerning the use of antibiotics, in particular fluoroquinolones in the context of an use not prescribed by the Marketing Authorization of the drug in children.

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has affected countries around the world. The introduction of COVID-19 vaccines has proved the most effective arsenal in the fight against the disease. However, with the vaccination of billions of people, data on vaccine-induced adverse reactions are also emerging. We report a 32-year-old woman who manifested papulopustular rash 7 days after receiving Moderna COVID-19 (mRNA-1273) vaccine. The patient responded to a short course of systemic steroids and antihistamines. Awareness regarding the possible adverse events that can be anticipated after the COVID-19 vaccination may help the healthcare professionals to offer prompt and effective care to the affected.

Olanzapine is a widely adopted atypical antipsychotic medication used to manage schizophrenia. Reports show that the incidence rate of adverse reactions to olanzapine is significantly lower than those of other classic antipsychotic medications. However, olanzapine overdose may be associated with severe consequences. Herein, we report a 21-year-old female patient who had taken nearly 700 mg (70 tablets) of olanzapine; she was found after 30 hours. As her condition progressed, she presented with rhabdomyolysis, swelling in the thighs and hips, paralytic ileus, digestive tract hemorrhage, and elevated serum amylase and lipase levels; notably, she recovered after treatment. This intractable case is of great clinical significance and suggests that early-phase hemoperfusion plays a critical role in olanzapine poisoning-related rhabdomyolysis.
