Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate factors that influence investment in mutual funds by individual investors in a developing economy. Drawing insights from the theory of planned behaviour, the study identified and tested the effect of awareness, attitude, financial literacy and preference for other competing investments on intention to invest in mutual funds by individual investors. Design/Methodology/Approach: Data was collected from 280 respondents in Zambia. Data was analysed using correlations and hierarchical regression models. Findings: The study reveals that awareness and attitude towards mutual funds significantly influence intention to invest in mutual funds. Surprisingly, financial literacy and preference for other investments do not significantly affect an individual investor’s intention to invest in mutual funds. Implications/Originality/Value: This study contributes to the financial services marketing literature by increasing understanding of individual investors’ investment decisions and drivers that influence intention to invest in mutual funds in Zambia. The study recommends that mutual funds marketers should invest more in building awareness and positive attitude towards investment in mutual funds in order to develop retail demand. Also, investment companies and financial services marketing policy makers should carefully consider their financial literacy programmes as the study reveals that financial literacy and competing investments are not significant drivers.

The purpose of this paper is to explore how a small remote Midwestern bank reformulated itself into a major marketer of retail Islamic financial services in the United States and influenced Islamic financial services marketing in North America. The paper is based on a review of existing literature and a case study of how University Bank, now based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has become the leading provider of Islamic financial services in the United States. University Bank whose principals are Roman Catholic identified the Muslim market in Southeast Michigan as measurable, differentiable, accessible and substantial. As part of the Bank's reformulation strategy it has successfully executed a strategic plan to capture this growing market in the United States and North America. The paper draws attention to the often ignored attractiveness of the Muslim market in North America as well as highlights how a small, nimble organization has been able to capitalize on using Muslims as a market segmentation variable.

: The progress of a region can be measured by the level of financial literacy of its population and financial inclusion. DKI Jakarta is in the top financial ranking for literacy and inclusion, but it is inversely proportional to the Pulau Seribu region. This research is a qualitative research with the technique of obtaining data through in-depth interviews with residents in the Pulau Seribu. The results are processed with a Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT) analysis to produce a map of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist in the Pulau Seribu region. With the SWOT condition in the region, it is hoped that the policy makers, namely the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), the DKI Jakarta Regional Government and the community themselves are able to synergize in formulating strategies to accelerate the backwardness of the Pulau Seribu with DKI Jakarta.
