One of the interesting features of Multi-Criteria Decision Making/ Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MCDM/ MADM) is that a number of techniques that can be used to solve the same problem. In general, three common categories of decision problems are choice problem, ranking problem, and sorting problem. While, the issue of choice and ranking problems is more emphasized in MCDM/ MADM, but the literature weakly consider sorting problems. Several solutions for the above problem are suggested (i.e., Flow sort, AHP-Sort, ELECTRE Tri, etc.). Theoretically, there is no reason to be limited to these techniques. Hence, in this paper we propose a novel multi-criteria sorting method that is based on Chebyshev’s theorem. More specifically, different from other studies on MCDM sorting problems, which put more emphasis on the extension of new models, this work attempts to present a general framework using the Chebyshev’s inequality, to transform the results of conventional MCDM models from ranking format to sort mode. Finally, the proposed approach is compared with three existed models. Compared results show that the proposed method is efficient and the results are stable.

One of the advantages of the PROMETHEE I method is to bring out such incomparability's. Incomparability mostly means that the analysis of the decision problem does not permit to identify a relation of overall preference or indifference between two or more alternatives. Since, in this paper we intend to use of these properties to examination of the some of Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method (i.e., PROMETHEE II, AHP, TOPSIS, and ELECTRE) behaviors versus incomparability. It is hardly possible to evaluate the behavior of the various MADM models versus incomparability. Because, the different model reflects a different approach to solve the same decision problems. Therefore, we proposed an empirically testable index Distance of rank positions. Then, the different MADM method behaviors are examined. The results indicated that, the solution provided by AHP is more effective than others.

In this paper, the authors propose an interval linguistic distribution model for multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems with incomplete linguistic information, in which they use intervals as evaluators' confidence levels indicating their belief degrees that a linguistic term fits an evaluation. By introducing the extent of ignoring information into this model, it can deal with incomplete linguistic assessments and then allow evaluators to avoid the dilemma that they have to supply complete assessments when not available. In addition, the uncertain subjective judgments on attributes of alternatives are represented as distributions on the linguistic term set used as an instrument for assessment in this model. This feature can be regarded as a measure for evaluators to handle uncertain information. The aggregation operators and expected utilities are also introduced for the purpose of aggregation and ranking problems of interval linguistic distributions. Finally, an example is used to illuminate the proposed model.

Considering the advantages of trapezoid fuzzy two-dimensional linguistic variables (TrF2DLVs), which can not only accurately describe the qualitative evaluation but also use qualitative linguistic variables (LVs) to describe the confidence level of this evaluation in the second dimension, this paper proposes a novel method based on trapezoidal fuzzy two-dimensional linguistic information to solve multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) problems with unknown attribute weight. First, a combination weight model is constructed, which covers a subjective weight determination model based on the proposed trapezoidal fuzzy two-dimensional linguistic best-worst method (TrF2DL-BWM) and an objective weight determination model based on the proposed CRITIC method. Then, in order to accurately rank the alternatives, an extended VIKOR-QUALIFLEX method is proposed, which can measure the concordance index of each ranking combination by means of group utility and individual maximum regret value of each evaluation alternative. Finally, a practical problem of lean management assessment for industrial residential projects is solved by the proposed method, and the effectiveness and advantages of the method are demonstrated by comparative analysis and discussion.
