Paper presents some results of long-term research of a new optimized subtle precast construction system based on high performance silicate composites. The system is particularly aimed for building construction in passive or zero-energy standard. Subtle structural elements from high performance concrete (HPC) can be integrated into building envelope of energy efficient buildings with significant reduction of envelope structure and avoiding risk of thermal bridges. Significant advantages of subtle elements are material and energy savings during production, transport, manipulation and construction on building site.Paper presents experimental verification of connection between columns and beams ensured by Peikko ́s PCs corbels. Moreover, production of two prototypes of high performance fibre reinforced columns over two floors is presented. Prototypes were casted in ŽPSV a.s. plant, Litice nad Orlicí in June 2014. Complex LCA analysis of three various reinforced concrete columns was performed. Analysis covers construction life phase. Consequently, environmental impacts of assessed variants were compared and evaluated. Results show that it is possible to reduce some impacts on the environment from 16 up to 65% in comparison with common solution of reinforced concrete columns due to the utilization of excellent mechanical properties of high performance concrete that enables the design of subtle structural elements.

Bearing units of lifting machines, products of construction, road, aviation, space and other branches of technology are very important structural elements, since the failure of even one bearing can cause the failure of the entire product. The results of experimental verification of the theoretical model of bearing operation under combined loading conditions are presented. The behavior under load of bearing units in the most general case can be represented by a sequence of five design schemes, expressed in the form of five statically indeterminate beams. The purpose of the experiments was to test this model under real loading conditions. The experiments were based on the analysis of the geometric shape of the curved elastic line, which the shaft of the bearing assembly acquires under load. The experimental results confirmed the validity of the model and showed that the previously generally accepted model of a two-support beam is not implemented. The conclusion is confirmed that in responsible lifting machines, as well as in responsible products of construction, road, aviation, space and other branches of technology, it is impractical to calculate bearings according to the traditional method, since an erroneous value of bearing durability can be obtained, overestimated from 28.37 to 26.663.9 times.

UHPC is a material which exhibits excellent mechanical properties and durability. Beside new structures it is also convenient for strengthening of existing structures. The paper investigates the possibilities of strengthening experimentally. A part of the experimental program is presented which is focused on bond of UHPC and existing concrete and on behaviour in bending. Acceptable bond may be achieved when the existing concrete is clean and reasonably rough. Structural elements are exposed to positive and negative bending moments. If UHPC overlay is applied, it works in compression and in tension. The experiments were therefore focused on verification of both alternatives (UHPC in compression and in tension). Finally, the conclusions from the experiments are drawn, which may be applied in practical design.
