Abstract Project 70 stainless type 303 and Project 7000 stainless type 303 are free-machining stainless steels of the austenitic chromium-nickel type. They offer significantly improved machinability and longer tool life. These steels are suited particularly for automatic bar-machine and Swiss-type machine operations where longer tool life results in more productive machining time. Applications include shafts, valve bodies, valves, valve trim, and fittings. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-409. Producer or source: Carpenter. Originally published June 1982, revised June 1997.

Abstract UNILOY 303 and 303Se are improved machinability grades of 18-8 general purpose austenitic stainless steels. Machinability is respectively improved by additions of sulfur or selenium. Whereas standard 18-8 stainless steel had a machinability rating about 40-50% that of AISI B1112 free-machining carbon steel, these steels have a rating of about 70% that of AISI B1112. UNILOY 303Se is preferred over UNILOY 303 where machined finish and good cold formability and corrosion resistance are desired. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-512. Producer or source: Cytemp Cyclops.

Abstract ALLEGHENY LUDLUM AL 2205 ALLOY is in the family of duplex alloys in which added nitrogen significantly improves corrosion resistance, especially in the welded condition. The microstructure consists of a balanced mixture of austenitic and ferritic phases. Its corrosion resistance to many environments is superior to Types 316 or 317 and it has a yield strength more than double that of AISI conventional austenitic stainless steels. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: SS-462. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.
