Abstract Avesta Polarit 317LMN is a low-carbon, higher-molybdenum austenitic steel frequently used for flue gas desulfurization service. The alloy is a fully austenitic stainless steel with excellent resistance to corrosion in chloride environments and nonoxidizing acids. It is significantly stronger than most low-carbon stainless steels and its structural stability makes for good weldability.
