Abstract COLUMBIA SPECIAL is the manufacturer's highest quality best grade of water-hardening tool steel. It contains small amounts of chromium and vanadium. Its manufacture is controlled closely to insure uniform predictable hardenability. When brine quenched it develops a uniform high-hardness case of medium depth with a tough shock-dampening core. It is noted for its combination of high resistance to abrasion and high toughness. COLUMBIA SPECIAL'S many applications include dies for many uses, reamers, taps, drills, punches, gages and wood knives. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-466. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract WATERDIE EXTRA is a high-quality water-hardening tool steel alloyed with chromium to give increased depth of hardened case with added resistance to abrasion. When quenched in water or brine, it develops a deep, uniform high-hardness case with a tough shock-dampening core. This steel gives outstanding performance in large-section tools and dies that demand the strength of an extra-deep hardened case backed by a tough core. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-477. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.
