Abstract UNS No. T11301 is a general-purpose high-molybdenum, low-tungsten type of high-speed tool steel. It has an excellent combination of cutting ability, toughness and finishing properties. Its cutting ability is good except for heavy-duty, continuous cutting operations where the ultimate in red-hardness is required. Its toughness is as great as that of any other high-speed steel. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-492. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Abstract ELECTRITE No. 1 is a standard 18.4-1 type high-speed steel having high density, extremely good wear resisting properties. It possesses a high red hardness when used for cutting and shearing tools. It corresponds to AISI Type T1 Tool Steel. This same type steel is also supplied containing sulphide additive and is called Electrite No. 1 XL. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and bend strength as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-62. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company.

Abstract ELECTRITE CO-6 is a high-speed steel of the 6 molybdenum-6 tungsten type to which 9% cobalt has been added. This cobalt addition increases the red hardness and permits a retention of greater cutting hardness at elevated temperatures. It is designated as SAE-M36 and AISI Type M36. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-35. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company. Originally published July 1955, revised June 1963.

Abstract GUTERL M-1 is a highly-molybdenum, low-tungsten type of high-speed tool steel. It is a general-purpose high-speed steel with an excellent combination of cutting ability, finishing characteristics and toughness. Guterl M-1 has good cutting ability for all operations except for heavy-duty, continuous cutting applications that require the ultimate in red hardness. Its toughness is as great as that of other high-speed steels. Its typical uses include circular saws, broaches, gear cutters, twist drills and taps. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-391. Producer or source: Guterl Special Steel Corporation.

Abstract Panther 5 is a 5% cobalt, high-carbon, high-vanadium, tungsten high-speed steel. Because of its excellent red hardness, higher cutting speeds can be used with Panther 5 than with the regular high-speed steels. Heat treating Panther 5 to its maximum hardness will provide long tool life. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-301. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.

Abstract REX AA is the original 18-4-1 high-speed steel, having been first introduced in the early 1990s. Melting practice and processing have been improved since that time, but nevertheless it is so properly balanced and the fundamental characteristics so sound, that it is still a standard, general-purpose high-speed steel. REX AA has a wide hardening range. This steel is less susceptible to soft skin during hardening than other types and has good red hardness and toughness. Among its many applications are boring tools, broaches, cutters, drills, gear cutters, lathe tools and woodworking knives. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-426. Producer or source: Crucible Specialty Metals Division, Colt Industries.
