Anthropology in Action is always happy to hear from potential reviewers at all stages in their academic careers. We currently have a number of books awaiting review. If you are interested in reviewing any of the books on the list below, please contact the reviews editor David Orr ([email protected]). We welcome reviews of around 600 words for a single book, but we are also keen to include review articles comparing two or more works, for which the word length is negotiable. Please also be aware that we can request recent publications (within the last year) from publishers, so do feel free to let us know of any books that you would like to review within the field of applied anthropology, and we will do our best to get them for you. Also note that publishers routinely send pdf or e-copies of publications rather than hard copies.

The University of South Florida MA Program in Anthropology will change some of its requirements, beginning in the fall of 1983. The primacy emphasis of the program will continue to be the training of practicing anthropologists. During its nine years of existence, USF's Graduate Program in Anthropology has attracted considerable interest nationwide. It was the first exclusively applied program to focus explicitly on masters' level training in applied anthropology as preparation for other than academic careers. Various aspects of the program have recently been discussed in Practicing Anthropology, vol. 4, no. 3-4). Also, the program and especially its internship component were recently addressed in a review of Internship Training in Applied Anthropology: A Five Year Review (A. Wolfe, E. Chambers and J. Smith) by John van Willigen in Human Organization (vol. 41:3).

This book is practical, guided, and forthright on what is needed to get started with the dissertation process. Its format is simple to and easy to read as it is broken down into chapters with information in each chapter outlined on its own page. This simple and uncomplicated format is a pleasure to read and it will not overwhelm doctoral students who are looking to move into this process of their academic careers. I strongly believe that authors Roberts and Hyatt have successfully accomplished their stated purpose for this text.
