This integrated cognitive-discourse study looks at the role of context in the variation of conceptual metaphor in economic discourse, which abounds in metaphors. The study is motivated by a general current interest in situational aspects of metaphorical conceptualisation in different professional discourses. The first research question is to test the relevance of metaphor variation for economic discourse and to investigate conceptual evolution of biological, mechanical and path/journey metaphors in this discourse type. Another research question is to determine particular types of context and contextual factors inducing metaphor variation in economic texts. The theoretical framework of the study is formed by the seminal theories of conceptual metaphor, conceptual evolution, knowledge framing and recent abundant research sharing an integrated cognitive-discourse approach to studying metaphor. The investigation revealed the salience of metaphor variation for economic discourse in a broad social context of its production: scientific, technological, career development, and discrimination at work contexts. The study adds to the understanding of the role contextual factors play in metaphorical meaning making and processing discourse. It can also have implications for further metaphor investigation in different professional discourses. Awareness of metaphor variation mechanisms in meaning making can also be instrumental in English for Specific Purposes pedagogy.

Proposed quantum experiments in deep space will be able to explore quantum information issues in regimes where relativistic effects are important. In this essay, we argue that a proper extension of quantum information theory into the relativistic domain requires the expression of all informational notions in terms of quantum field theoretic (QFT) concepts. This task requires a working and practicable theory of QFT measurements. We present the foundational problems in constructing such a theory, especially in relation to longstanding causality and locality issues in the foundations of QFT. Finally, we present the ongoing Quantum Temporal Probabilities program for constructing a measurement theory that (i) works, in principle, for any QFT, (ii) allows for a first- principles investigation of all relevant issues of causality and locality, and (iii) it can be directly applied to experiments of current interest.

This article has a historiographic and methodological nature and is devoted to the problematic interpretations of the esoteric content of Dante’s ideas and works by French and Italian scholars from the middle of the nineteenth century to the second half of the twentieth century. Various definitions of Western esotericism are discussed in the light of contemporary approaches. The current interest in the study of Dante’s esotericism and the relevance of this topic are substantiated. The tradition in the interpretation of Dante's esotericism in Italy and France can be traced back to the occultists of the 19th century, who referred to each other's works: G. Rossetti, E. Arou, F. Boissard, J. Péladant, G. Pascoli and others. It has been demonstrated that the studies of Dante's esotericism during 1920s reached a new level of quality, which was adequate to the contemporary scientific requirements for Dante studies: in Italy, this happened in the person of Luigi Valli and his students, Arturo Reghini and then Julius Evola; and in France, at the same time, in the person of René Guénon. The criticism of Valli in the works by Guénon is analyzed in detail. The context of Dante's interpretation by Guénon is revealed in connection with the issue of Templar, Rosicrucian and Islamic influences (Sufism, Arab Neoplatonism). In this respect, a significant difference of tones was observed in the perception of Dante's esotericism within the general paradigm of integral traditionalism between Guénon and his Italian colleagues Julius Evola and especially Guido de Giorgio, whose fundamental work is still unknown to Russian scholars. An intense politicization of the perception of Dante's heritage by Evola and de Giorgio is also remarked in this article. Special attention is then paid to the study of Dante's esotericism by one of the leading Roman Catholic theologian of the twentieth century, Romano Guardini, who engaged a polemic correspondence with the integral traditionalists. Based on the results of our study, it was concluded that the research of Dante's esotericism by French and Italian authors for more than a hundred years can be characterized as a continuous chain of dialogue and polemics of various authors who knew about each other's works and used the appropriate links.

AbstractEstimating entropy production directly from experimental trajectories is of great current interest but often requires a large amount of data or knowledge of the underlying dynamics. In this paper, we propose a minimal strategy using the short-time Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relation (TUR) by means of which we can simultaneously and quantitatively infer the thermodynamic force field acting on the system and the (potentially exact) rate of entropy production from experimental short-time trajectory data. We benchmark this scheme first for an experimental study of a colloidal particle system where exact analytical results are known, prior to studying the case of a colloidal particle in a hydrodynamical flow field, where neither analytical nor numerical results are available. In the latter case, we build an effective model of the system based on our results. In both cases, we also demonstrate that our results match with those obtained from another recently introduced scheme.

The author considers artistic culture as a subject of synergetics and pre-quantum / quantum culture. The author’s reflections are in the field of searching theater, literature, performative art, and cinema. The theater of the future is the research subject, a “scientific” project. The level of the theater rises by an order of magnitude to its surpassing scenarios. Universalism, or rather, trans-professionalism, is becoming an indispensable component of the future artistic process. The leader, the Scientist–Researcher–Poet (Artist), becomes of current interest. The stage works by Castellucci, Suzuki, music by Scott Gibbons and others have modeled this future. Time moves simultaneously in all directions refuting the laws of classical physics. The trajectory of movement indicates quantum measurements. Faulkner, Joyce, Proust, Andre Gide, John Dos Passos, Rilke successfully polemicize with physics. The new dimensions of a person imply a plurality of identifications. Calvino – “The Cloven Viscount”.

Abstract Of current interest, in nonlinear optics, fluid dynamics and plasma physics, the paper commented (i.e., Phys. Scr. 95, 095207, 2020) has investigated a (2+1)-dimensional extended Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff system. Hereby, we make the issue raised in that paper more complete. Using the Hirota method and symbolic computation, we construct three sets of the bilinear auto-Bäcklund transformations for that system, along with some analytic solutions. As for the amplitude of the relevant wave in nonlinear optics, fluid dynamics or plasma physics, our results depend on the coefficients in that system.

The reviewed book does not analyze all the provisions of European Private International Law, but only the relations between professionals in different fields and, tangentially, the relations of professionals with other categories of law subjects. This combination between aspects of international trade and the rules of European Private International Law is unique and very welcomed in the domestic legal landscape, especially since Carmen Tamara Ungureanu opts for issues that a lawyer faces daily, issues of current interest, particularly in the context of technological development and the European Union's choice and ambition to become a world leader in the digital economy.

Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is an oilseed that is used in both industry and food production. Flaxseed contains biologically active compounds including linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and lignans. Flaxseed powder (2.5–10% w/w) and chicken eggs (10–30% v/w) were substituted in cake wheat flour for fried dough (magwinya) production. The physicochemical properties of the fried dough were determined and compared with the control. There was a significant (p < 0.05) increase in moisture, protein, ash, and hardness and a decrease in fat content of fried dough enriched with egg (FDE) and flaxseed powder (FDFX). Enrichment with 30% (v/w) egg and/or 7.5–10% flaxseed powder resulted in higher protein, oil reduction, and ash contents compared with the rest of the products. With the current interest in plant-based protein, flaxseed is a good choice of flour-based snacks for consumers without compromise in nutrition.

The materials of pre-revolutionary periodicals of Yakutia of the late 19th — early 20th centuries, containing information about the life of sectarian Eunuchs in the region are analyzed in the article. The reference to these sources is necessary in order to reconstruct the history of the scavenger in connection with the current interest in modern science in the publications of the regional print press, which were not previously taken into account by the researchers. The novelty of the research lies in the replenishment of knowledge of the history of skopstvo in Yakutia due to the introduction of new historical sources into scientific circulation. An analysis of the materials of the Yakut press allows us to conclude that the role of Eunuchs in the development of arable and truck farming in Yakutia remained an urgent topic years after their release from exile. The authors pay special attention to the coverage of the everyday side of skopic life on the pages of periodicals. The similarity of news stories about sectarians form a stable idea of the relationship of Eunuchs with the local population, lifestyle and models of behavior in the Yakut reality of the late 19th — 20th centuries.

Although it has long been recognized that seed production by many forest trees varies greatly from year to year, masting (along with ‘mast fruiting’, ‘mast seeding’ and ‘masting behaviour’) as a concept referring to such variability is a relatively recent development. Here, I provide a brief history of masting research, highlighting some of the early contributions by foresters, zoologists and others that paved the way for the burgeoning number of studies currently being conducted by researchers around the world. Of particular current interest is work attempting to understand the proximate mechanisms, evolutionary drivers and community effects of this important ecological phenomenon as well as the ways that climate change may influence masting behaviour in the future. This article is part of the theme issue ‘The ecology and evolution of synchronized seed production in plants'.
