✓Although many arachnoid cysts are discovered incidentally and require no intervention, a small subset has been known to rupture. Note that rupture can occur either spontaneously or in association with trauma. Based on a review of the literature on ruptured arachnoid cysts, it appears that patients with middle fossa cysts are more likely to experience symptomatic traumatic rupture than those with cysts in other locations. Middle fossa cysts are more commonly associated with hemispheric subdural collections and hematomas than are any other cysts. The authors report on two representative cases illustrating the distinct presentation, imaging characteristics, and management of these cysts.

A review of the literature on the language of working-class Black children revealed that only a small subset of this research has focused on the acquisition and development of linguistic knowledge. Consequently major gaps exist in what is known about the linguistic abilities of these children. In an attempt to narrow these gaps, a team of researchers has initiated a large scale longitudinal and cross-sectional study of the acquisition of language by working-class Black children at the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, D. C. This paper will present a detailed description of the Center study. It will also critically evaluate existing research on the linguistic abilities of working-class Black children and its impact on language acquisition studies focusing on this population. The evaluation reveals that a new framework for analyzing the language of working-class Black children should be selected. The theory and methodology of the new framework are described.

Primary breast neoplasms are rare in adolescent females, most of which are benign. Phyllodes tumors constitute a remarkably small subset of breast neoplasms (0.3-0.9%) with malignant phyllodes tumors being even more uncommon. Malignant phyllodes tumors tend to progress rapidly though only 1.5% metastasize. They are also associated with a higher rate of recurrence than their benign counterparts, underlying the importance of adequate surgical margins. It is therefore imperative to be able to identify these tumors early allowing for prompt resection and close follow-up. Here, we present the rare case of a 17-year-old female presenting with a rapidly enlarging breast mass, which was ultimately found to be a malignant phyllodes tumor. We further performed a review of the literature to highlight only 22 other cases reported in adolescent females.
