Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract Finkl ShelleX is a high-quality steel alloy melted, vacuum arc degassed, and forged. The alloy is similar to Shelldie (see Alloy Digest TS-554, April 1997) but has nearly twice the molybdenum content for excellent wear resistance under conditions of high die operating temperatures. The alloy is suitable for hydraulic and mechanical presses. Die preheating is mandatory. The alloy is used for die inserts or other applications where higher wear and tempering resistance that H11 or H13 die steels have is important. This datasheet provides information on composition, hardness, and tensile properties. It also includes information on heat treating. Filing Code: TS-569. Producer or source: A. Finkl & Sons Company.

With the increasing demand for high quality steel, various secondary refining techniques have been developed in the past decades. RH powder top blowing process (RH-PTB) is practiced in industry to decrease the impurity content of steel in a more economical way. In the present work, based on similarity theory, RH powder top blowing process was simulated by water model, and the effects of operating parameters on mixing time were investigated. The results show that the injected powder had a negligible effect on mixing time in RH-PTB, and the mixing time increases with top lance gas flowrate and decreases with lifting gas flowrate of up-leg. It was found that the mixing time was no longer decreasing as the lifting gas flowrate was over 15 L/min. Moreover, the height of top lance has some effect on mixing time in the reactor, and it should be adjusted to specific circumstances for purposes.
