With the tremendous increase of web services published online, the problem of selecting the best service offers becomes more challenging. Users need to make their decisions on multiple and conflicting non-functional requirements. It is a natural fit to apply the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) theory to the service selection and ranking process. In our proposed QoS-based service selection system, we take the user-centric standpoint to design the system. We improve the original MCDM models so that the user requirements on the QoS criteria are included in the rank calculation process. Our proposed QoS weighting method considers the well-defined ANP method combined with the user-defined weights. We compared the improved selection methods and we found that the Constraint Programming method is the best in terms of its sensitivity to the changes made to the QoS weights. Consequently, the results produced from this comparison would be presented to the user.

With the rapid development of Web services technology, more and more Web services emerged in the network. Service consumer attached importance to the functional properties of services, also more and more emphasis on non-functional properties, namely Quality of Service. The Ultimate goal is meet consumer the demand of QoS. Therefore, service providers paid more and more attention to quality of services to meets the needs of users. This takes into account the options to meet the functional requirements and the QoS requirements, and designed a Web service selection framework. At the same time, QoS attributes can be added or deleted the number, so it is an extendible framework. The results show that the framework could select the appropriate service for users.

In the last decade, selecting suitable web services based on users’ requirements has become one of the major subjects in the web service domain. Any research works have been done - either based on functional requirements, or focusing more on Quality of Service (QoS) - based selection. We believe that searching is not the only way to implement the selection. Selection could also be done by browsing, or by a combination of searching and browsing. In this thesis, we propose a browsing method based on the Scatter/Gather model, which helps users gain a better understanding of the QoS value distribution of the web services and locate their desired services. Because the Scatter/Gather model uses cluster analysis techniques and web service QoS data is best represented as a vector of intervals, or more generically a vector of symbolic data, we apply for symbolic clustering algorithm and implement different variations of the Scatter/Gather model. Through our experiments on both synthetic and real datasets, we identify the most efficient ( based on the processing time) and effective implementations.

With the proliferation of web services, the selection process, especially the one based on the non-functional properties (e.g. Quality of Service – QoS attributes) has become a more and more important step to help requestors locate a desired service. There have been many research works proposing various QoS description languages and selection models. However, the end user is not generally the focal point of their designs and the user support is either missing or lacking in these systems. The QoS language sometimes is not flexible enough to accommodate users’ various requirements and is too complex so that it puts extra burden on users. In order to solve this problem, in this thesis we design a more expressive and flexible QoS query language (QQL) targeted for non-expert users, together with the user support on formulating queries and understanding services in the registry. An enhanced selection model based on Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) is also proposed to handle the QQL queries. We performed experiments with a real QoS dataset to show the effectiveness of our framework.

Dependent upon the conditions, administrations clients may have an extent of tendencies for the non utilitarian principles. This made a way for different QoS based web administrations assurance segments which along these lines require an evaluation plot for grasping a particular methodology. Investigation of change is a particular kind of verifiable hypothesis testing used for making decisions using data. The goal of the paper is to dismember the plans specifically Analytical Hierarchical preparing (AHP), Logical Scoring Preference (LSP) and Fuzzy Topsis reliant on extent of customer tendency norms and investigate them using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). QWS dataset has been used for exploring recently referenced three plans. Preliminary outcomes show that the Fuzzy Topsis contrive beats the other web organization assurance techniques.

Most of the current research work on web service selection only considered the selection problem from the perspective of one party – service consumers. A service marketplace serves many parties including service consumers and providers. Thus, it is important to consider multiple parties. In this thesis, we propose a service selection model considering the benefits of multiple parties: consumers, providers and the marketplace. The model ranks services based on not only how much these services satisfy the user requirements but also how much the requests can be distributed to different providers and the revenue gain in the marketplace. We design different objective functions, then combine into a QoS-Plus-PF objective function. The results show that proposed model could achieve a high degree of satisfaction of user requests (i.e., 0.61% to 5.26% worse than the optimal score), and meanwhile have the capability of promoting more diversified set of services (i.e., 48.95% promotion percentage).
