The Indonesian curriculum year 2013 requires students to have Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) that match the competence needs in 21st century. Based on international assessment, Indonesia’s student rank is insufficient because the student is not familiar with solving problems requiring reasoning and analysis, including topic of algebra. This research aims to produce HOTS questions about algebra at Junior High School, which is valid, practical, and effective. This research is development research which consists of two stages, namely preliminary and formative evaluation. The participants in this study were grade 7 and 8 students in one Junior High School at Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The instruments were validation sheets, student response questionnaires, practicality test questionnaires, and HOTS questions. The result shows that the HOTS algebraic questions were meet the criteria: valid because all validators stated that the HOTS questions are suitable to use and the average value of the validation was reach very valid criteria; practical because all validators suggested that the learning tools can be applied in the class; effective because students’ response toward problems was positive dan the ability of students to solve questions is diverse. Thus, these HOTS questions can be used at the junior high school level.

(3) Hasil uji coba lapangan menunjukkan perangkat pembelajaran efektif ditinjau dari HOTS siswa dengan persentase ketuntasan secara klasikal subjek uji coba lebih dari 75%.Kata Kunci: pengembangan, perangkat pembelajaran matematika, problem-based learning, higher order thinking skills Mathematics teaching kits based on PBL to develop hots of senior high school students  AbstractThis research is aimed at developing mathematics teaching kit based on problem-based learning which is valid, practical, and effective to develop the higher order thinking of grade X students senior high school in their second semester, which consists of lesson plan and students’ worksheet with test instrument. The research development used the model adapted from 4-D model developed by Thiagarajan with employing steps: defining, planning, developing, and disseminating. The tryout is conducted three steps: expert validation, limited tryout, and field tryout. The tryout subjects were teachers and students from two schools. The instruments used in this research were validation sheet, teacher’s assessment sheet, student’s assessment sheet, and test. The result of the research shows that the developed mathematics teaching kitbased on problem-based learning has met the aspect of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. (1) The result of validation shows that the lesson plan and the students’ worksheet are chategorized as valid with the Aiken analysis showing the index for the lesson plan has achieved 0.69 and the 0.70 for the students’ worksheet. (2) teh result of limited tryout shows that the developed of mathematics teaching kit is practical. (3) the result of field tryout shows that the developed of mathematics teaching is effective interm students’s HOTS with percentage of clasisical mastery subjects reached 75%.Keywords: development, mathematics teaching kit, problem-based learning, higher order thinking skills

This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of class XI students in Tugumulyo State Senior High School 2018/2019 Academic Year after using the physics-based teaching material of elasticity and hooke’s law and to find out the students response to learning using the higher order thinking skills approach to elasticity and hooke’s law material of class XI students at Public High School Tugumulyo 2018/2019 Academic Year. The population of this study were all students of class XI and the subject of this study consisted of 34 students of class XI IPA 5 of State Senior High School Tugumulyo. Data collection is done by questionnaires, tests, and observations. The overall percentage of teaching material components was 79,24% (very good). The percentage of student responses to higher order thinking skills -based teaching materials is 76,53% (very good). In addition, from the results of daily test tests, the effectiveness percentage of 88.89% (very good) of students who scored above 70 out of 10 test items. The value of t count> t table with the value of t count = 2,13and t table = 1,697. So that the use of higher order thinking skills -based teaching materials can be said to be valid, practical and effective.
