Solitary fibrous tumors are uncommon spindle cell neoplasms generally associated with serosal surfaces, especially the pleura. Recently, these tumors have been documented in a number of extrapleural sites including the head and neck. So far only two cases of parapharyngeal solitary fibrous tumor have been reported in the English literature. Rare location of an uncommon lesion often gives rise to difficulty in diagnosis or to misdiagnosis. In both the previously reported cases, as well as in our case, the diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor was not made until the excised tumor was subjected to histopathology and immunohistochemistry.

AbstractPleomorphic adenoma arising in the external auditory canal is rare. We report the case of a 38-year-old man. To better grasp the clinical features and natural history of this uncommon tumour, we also reviewed the world wide literature and found 24 similar cases, which we analysed together with our own.

Salivary gland tumors are rare among all head and neck tumors. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most commonly seen subtype, and 85% of the cases are located in the parotid gland. PA may very rarely be seen in minor salivary glands. Minor salivary gland PAs are mostly located in the hard and soft palates. Nasopharyngeal PA is very rare, and a total of 8 cases have been published to date. In this case report, a 51-year-old female patient who had nasopharyngeal PA with chondroid metaplasia is presented, and we review the relevant literature.
