Introduction: Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas (SCCP) is a rare malignant tumor that has been reported in individual case reports only. The clinical data on primary SCCP treatment are limited. Therefore, the appropriate management strategy for this disease should be standardized.Case Presentation: We present the case of a 63-year-old man admitted to our hospital for upper left abdominal pain for 2 months without weight loss or jaundice. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen revealed a mixed solid and cystic lesion in the pancreatic tail, measuring 35 × 37 mm in maximum diameter with enhancement. The patient was diagnosed with primary SCCP without metastasis, based on radiological and pathological findings. He did not receive neoadjuvant therapy postoperatively and was followed up by CT and MRI for 18 months without recurrence or metastasis.Result: Complete resection is the most effective treatment for early stage primary SCCP. Abdominal MRI is an effective imaging tool for preoperative evaluation and postoperative follow-up of primary SCCP. The need for neoadjuvant therapy depends on various factors. Conclusion: Primary SCCP is a tumor with poor prognosis. Risk factor control, early accurate radiologic evaluation, and individualized treatment strategies improve the quality of life and prolong the overall survival period of patients.

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas is a rare malignant neoplasia, accounting for approximately 0.5–2% of all malignant pancreatic tumors. These lesions are characterized by poor prognosis. Here we report on a case of a 57-year-old female patient with knownBRCA2germline mutation presenting with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas as the only malignancy. The tumor was locally advanced at the first presentation but responded almost completely to neoadjuvant radio-chemotherapy. Our case highlights the facts (i) that pancreatic carcinomas belong to the tumor spectrum of patients with theBRCA2-associated hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) and (ii) that tumors of the pancreas can represent the first or even the only manifestation of HBOC. Furthermore, this case of a nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma indicates that HBOC-associated carcinomas of the pancreas might be characterized by a broader morphological spectrum than was previously thought. SinceBRCAmutations cause deficiency of DNA double-strand breakage repair in tumors, neoadjuvant treatment regimens might become a reasonable option in HBOC-associated pancreatic carcinomas. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a primary pancreatic squamous cell carcinoma in a patient with this particular genetic background ofBRCA2-associated HBOC.

AbstractObjective:To discuss the histopathogenesis and treatment choices for synchronous tumours of the larynx.Case reports:We present two cases of synchronous laryngeal leiomyosarcoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The first case was an early-stage tumour and the second an advanced-stage tumour of the larynx. Selection of adequate treatment for synchronous tumours is difficult because of different spreading rates and metastatic patterns. Treatment choices for both the primary tumour site and the neck should be related to the stage of the squamous component of the tumour. Conclusion:In such cases, the tumour location, tumour stage and lymphatic metastases must be carefully evaluated in order to make the optimum treatment choice. Treatment evaluation of the neck should be related to the stage of the squamous component of these synchronous tumours. Partial laryngectomy techniques may be preferred if the extent of the disease permits.

Malignant transformation of a dermoid cyst is rare, with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) being the most common type. During a 10-year period in our institution, we encountered only four cases of SCC out of 425 cases of dermoid cyst, an incidence of 0.94%. Two were of old age, in menopausal status (63 and 74 y), while the other two were in their early forties. Three cases presented with pelvic masses while the other one had nonspecific wasting symptoms and later diarrhea. Three were in early stage and have survived to date without evidence of disease at 8, 12, and 116 months after diagnosis. The other case, in stage III, had suboptimal surgery and responded partially to chemotherapy, subsequently progressed after cessation of the drug, and finally died within a year after diagnosis.
