A UV Nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal is one of the key devices in all-solid-state laser technology, and borate halides show outstanding potential due to their abundant structural diversity and short UV cut-off edges. In this article, the sizable UV NLO crystal of K3B6O10Br (KBOB) has been grown with lead-containing and lead-free fluxes systems using the high-temperature top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) method. Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and transmittance spectra illustrate the influence of Pb2+ ions on the transmittance properties and laser-induced damage threshold (LDT). The thermal property, namely, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, and thermal diffusivity curves, were characterized. Moreover, a small variation of thermal refractive indexes was analyzed to illustrate the advantage of KBOB in the application for temperature-fluctuated specific regions.

This review summarizes thioborates and their structural motifs ranging from zero-dimension to three-dimension. The most commonly observed building units of these examples are planar-triangle BS3 and tetrahedron BS4. Thioborates possess advantages with respect to their structural diversity, optical nonlinearity, laser-induced damage threshold and transparency range, and represent potentially a rich supply of new nonlinear optical materials.

Abstract Some new analogues of the nonlinear optical crystal L-arginine phosphate monohydrate (LAP) (Arg • HIO3 , Arg • 2HIO3 , Lys • HIO3 , Lys • 2HIO3 , Lys • 3HIO3 , Bet • 3HIO3) were obtained and investigated by means of IR, NQR, X-ray diffraction and SHG methods. The importance of this class of crystals for revealing new nonlinear optical crystals is pointed out.

A novel semiorganic nonlinear optical crystal bis (L-glutamine) potassium nitrate (BGPN) grown by slow evaporation technique at ambient temperature. The grown crystal surface has been analyzed by chemical etching and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies. Amplitude parameters like area roughness, roughness average, valley height, valley depth, peak height, and peak valley height were measured successfully from AFM studies. Etching studies were carried out by various solvents like water, methanol and ethanol. The etching study indicates the occurrence of different types of etch pit patterns like striations and steplike pattern. The laser damage threshold energy has been measured by irradiating laser beam using a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (1064 nm). Second harmonic generation (SHG) studies have been performed by famous Kurtz powder technique with reference to standard potassium dihydrogen phosphate single crystals (KDP). It is found from this technique that SHG efficiency of BGPN is in comparison to that of standard KDP crystals.
