In this study, a double-loop control strategy is proposed for power grid frequency and voltage regulation using plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) connected to the grid through a three-level capacitor clamped inverter. The frequency and voltage regulation problem is first formulated using vector space analysis and phasor diagrams to find the boundaries and constraints in terms of the system parameters. The derived formulas are then utilized to design a double-loop controller using an exclusive phase detector control loop and a novel pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme to effectively regulate the frequency and voltage of the grid. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control strategy are evaluated through simulation and experimental studies. This approach can benefit both the customers and the grid operator, as it facilitates utilizing the batteries of the connected PEVs to supply a portion or all of the active and reactive power demand, hence regulating the frequency and voltage of the grid. The extent to which active and reactive power can be supplied depends on the number of PEVs connected to the local grid.

In view of a serious threat for the transient stability of the power system being caused by the large-scale wind farms integration, and combining with advantages of STATCOM which can quickly restore the fault voltage and fastly, flexibly and smoothly compensate the reactive power, a method is proposed using STATCOM controller of to improve transient stability of the power system integrated by large-scale wind farms. The control strategy of the STATCOM controller uses adaptive double loop control. The role of the device to improvement transient stability of the power system is studied under the condition of serious fault. by simulation comparison with the condition without STATCOM controller installed at the same place. The simulation results show that the STATCOM controller can clearly improve transient stability of the power system integrated by large-scale wind farms.

The paper includes the analysis of the operation of low-voltage prosumer installation consisting of receivers and electricity sources and equipped with a 3-phase energy storage system. The aim of the storage application is the management of active power within the installation to decrease the total power exchanged with the supplying network and thus reduce energy costs borne by the prosumer. A solution for the effective implementation of the storage system is presented. Apart from the active power management performed according to the prosumer’s needs, the storage inverter provides the ancillary service of voltage regulation in the network according to the requirements of the network operator. A control strategy involving algorithms for voltage regulation without prejudice to the prosumer’s interest is described in the paper. Reactive power is used first as a control signal and if the required voltage effect cannot be reached, then the active power in the controlled phase is additionally changed and the Energy Storage System (ESS) loading is redistributed in phases in such a way that the total active power set by the prosumer program remains unchanged. The efficiency of the control strategy was tested by means of a simulation model in the PSCAD/EMTDC program. The results of the simulations are presented.

This paper presents a power compensation strategy to suppress the double frequency power ripples of Voltage source converter high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) systems under unbalanced grid voltage conditions. The mathematical control equations of the double frequency ripple power of VSC under unbalanced operating conditions are firstly derived and established, where the dynamic behaviors of the double frequency ripples in active and reactive power are regarded as being driven by current-relevant components and voltage-relevant components, respectively. Based on the equations, a power compensation control strategy of VSC-HVDC is proposed via the passivity-based control with disturbance observer to suppress both the current-relevant and voltage-relevant components in the power ripples. With this control strategy, the double frequency ripples in active and reactive power are suppressed simultaneously and system performance is significantly enhanced with the implementation of the disturbance observer in the passivity-based control. Theoretical stability analysis and simulation cases show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed strategy.

This paper suggested a single-phase cross-connected half-bridges multilevel inverter (cchb-mli) topology for static synchronous compensator (statcom) applications. The proposed mli structure consists of cross-connected multilevel cells connected in series with a more optimized number of devices to synthesize a higher number of voltage steps. Each cell in the structure consists of a set of switches and a dc-capacitor. Typically, when several dc-capacitors are used in an inverter, the dc voltages fluctuation occurs due to tolerance between passive element and asymmetric switch losses. A dual-loop control technique has been proposed with level-shifted pulse width modulation pwm to overcome these issues. The proposed methodology balances the dc-voltages using a proportional-integral controller by adjusting the switch duty cycle. The control method helps offset the issue of aggravated fluctuation while preserving the delivered reactive power distributed equally among the dc-capacitors at the same time. A thorough comparison is made between the proposed inverter concerning the number of components and efficiency to demonstrate the effectiveness of previous topologies. Moreover, a simulation model built in simulink and experimental results take from laboratory prototype to confirm the effectiveness of proposed structure and its control technique.

Nowadays Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) has gradually become one of the representative techniques in the field of dynamic reactive power compensation in the power distribution system. This paper analyzed the topology and the voltage imbalance problem of the up and down capacitors on DC side of the three-phase four-wire STATCOM. In allusion to the imbalance problem of neutral point, a novel control strategy based on the control of zero-sequence current was proposed. By the triple close-loop control strategy, the STATCOM can achieve great control accuracy and dynamic performance. Simulation result proves that the proposed control method is effective.

This paper studies the instantaneous output power characteristics of photovoltaic inverters and its flexible power control strategy under unbalanced grid faults. Then the optimal parameters model of the power control is established with minimum integrated fluctuation amplitude of the active and reactive power as a goal when the constraint of the output current harmonic distortion of photovoltaic inverters is taken into account. Finally, the optimal power control of photovoltaic inverters based on dead-beat current tracking is realized and the feasibility of the proposed control strategy is verified with the power system transient software PSCAD/EMTDC.
