The impossibility of replacing hydraulic drives with other type drives in heavy duty machinery is the main reason for the development of a system for controlling hydraulic power steering. Moreover, the need for remote automatic control of the steering in specific types of mobile machinery leads to significant scientific interest in the design of embedded systems for controlling electro-hydraulic steering units. This article introduces an approach, which has been developed by authors, for robust stability and robust performance analysis of two embedded systems for controlling electro-hydraulic power steering in mobile machinery. It is based on the suggested new more realistic “black box” SIMO model with output multiplicative uncertainty. The uncertainty is obtained by parameters confidence interval and Gauss approximation formula. The embedded control systems used a linear-quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller and H∞ controller. The synthesis of the controllers was performed on the basis of a nominal part of an uncertainty model. Robust stability and robust performance analyses were performed in the framework of a so-called structured singular value, μ. The obtained theoretical results were experimentally approved by real experiments with both of the developed control systems, which were physically realized as a laboratory test rig.

On of the practical difficulties of high speed automotive hydraulic power steering is that the output exceeds the actual demands of the system, i.e., there is a substantial power loss. This paper discusses the configuration and the action principle of a new variable displacement of double-action vane pump, which consists of floating blocks. The pump belongs to an automotive hydraulic power steering system, and prosperous utilization is expected. In the meantime the mathematical and simulation model for hydraulic power steering of automobile were established and the Matlab Simulink simulation model was presented. Different parameters of pump are selected in simulating programming. The simulating results are analyzed and compared.

Conventional hydraulic steering system has the problems of "low-speed heavy, high-speed flight" and energy-wasting when steering, the main reason is after the system is designed, the power characteristics are fixed. To solve this problem it is necessary to achieve the power characteristics of changing power steering system according to speed of vehicles, in order to offer the power that matches the speed. Using vehicle speed sensor signal to control pilot solenoid unloading valve to regulate the pressure of hydraulic system, can achieve the regulation of power characteristics, this article is based on such idea to design variable hydraulic power steering system for hydraulic power steering system of light trucks.

How to reduce or eliminate the noise of the vane steering pump is a key problem to use hydraulic power steering car to solve. After a lot of experiments and demonstration, the methods of adopting correct transition curve, and a large circular arc method, adopting low noise impact curve of eight times optimization design, and the advanced stator curve fitting method, are to be good solutions to the problem of the vane steering pump noise.

A fault tree model of the electric hydraulic power steering controller has been built and the minimum cut sets leading to the fault of system has been found out. Then, the method of count reliability prediction is used to get the failure rate of each basic event and the type of failure distribution. We use MATLAB to get the top event probability and the possibility importance and relative importance of each basic event. Lastly, MATLAB, based on Monte Carlo simulation, is used to make the simulation of fault tree model accurate and to calculate reliability index. The accuracy of this method is verified perfectly by calculating. Especially for complex system, this method of reliability analysis is of great significance.
