The fabrication of porous metal structures usually involves complicated processes such as lithography or etching. In this study, a facile and clean method based on thermal evaporation at high pressure is introduced, by which a highly porous, black colored structure of Au can be formed through the control of homogeneous nucleation and growth during evaporation. The deposited films have different morphologies, from columnar to nanoporous structures, depending on the working pressure. These porous structures consist of Au nanoparticle aggregates, and a large number of nano-gaps are found among the nanoparticles. Thus, these structures indicate a much higher intensity of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) when compared with commercial SERS substrates. The SERS intensity depends on the working pressure and thickness. Even circumstances that can induce agglomeration of nanoparticle aggregates do not deteriorate the sensitivity of SERS. These nanoporous structures based on high-pressure thermal evaporation are expected to provide a new platform for the development of low-cost and highly sensitive chemical sensors.

Abstract Thin films and Surface Enhanced Raman spectroscopy have a strong bonding towards development of Sensors. From last 4 decades SERS has been used as effective tool for detection of toxic dyes, in food industry and agriculture world. To minimize the cost and fabrication over large surface is the most challenging task in substrate fabrication. In the present work an attempt has been made towards dual coatings, which could act as an effective SERS Substrates. An effective and facile approach of low cost bi-metallic Nanostructured film has been fabricated using thermal evaporation. Using the standard characterization techniques such as FE-SEM and XRD, the obtained films were Rhodamine 6G was used as an analyte for the SERS studies. The detection of R6G was up to 10− 10mol l− 1solution.The present bi-metallic coating can be serves as an excellent SERS active surface and provides a versatile pathway to fabricate anisotropic nanostructure on a glass film.

In this article, we demonstrate a facile, rapid, and practical approach to growing high-quality Cu2S nanosheets decorated with Ag nanoparticles (NPs) through the galvanic reduction method. The Ag/Cu2S nanosheets were efficiently applied to the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and photocatalytic degradation applications. The photodegradation of RhB dye with the Ag/Cu2S nanosheets composites occurred at a rate of 2.9 times faster than that observed with the undecorated Cu2S nanosheets. Furthermore, the Ag/Cu2S nanosheets displayed highly sensitive SERS detection of organic pollutant (R6G) as low as 10−9 M. The reproducibility experiments indicated that the Ag/Cu2S nanosheets composites could be used for dual functionality in a new generation of outstandingly sensitive SERS probes for detection and stable photocatalysts.
