The ecological benefit of cultivated land is the non-market value or ecological service value created by cultivated land protection. Based on the trinity concept of comprehensive protection of quantity, quality, and ecology of cultivated land, this study calculates the ecological benefits of cultivated land protection in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Through the theory of ecological supply and demand balance, the study estimated the ecological benefit spillover of cultivated land protection in the basin. The amounts and paths of ecological financial transfers for cultivated land are then examined by balancing the protection responsibilities and financial power of cultivated land. We found that overall the ecological benefits of cultivated land protection in the Yangtze River Economic Belt increased, reaching 773.224 billion RMB in 2017. Therein the upper, middle, and lower reaches compose 20.81%, 53.89%, and 25.30% of the ecological benefits. There are significant differences in the ecological benefits, respectively. There are significant differences in the ecological benefits and their variations of cultivated land within the River Basins. The ecological benefits of cultivated land in the Yangtze River Economic Belt demonstrated spatial spillovers within and between the upper, middle, and lower reaches. The middle reaches of the economic belt are the main ecological surplus areas of cultivated land. The ecological deficit areas of cultivated land are mainly distributed in the lower reaches. The spillover effect of the ecological benefits is evident between provinces. The increase of regional economy and ecological compensation policy for cultivated land can effectively stimulate the ecological benefits whereas the pressure of cultivated land protection and power spillovers are adverse to cultivated land ecological protection. The vertical and horizontal fiscal transfers in 2017 respectively amounted to 230.14 billion RMB and 27.24 billion RMB. Particularly, the upper, middle, and lower reaches received 13.07%, 58.41% and 28.52% of the ecological fiscal transfers, respectively. It is important to strengthen spatial spillovers and improve the horizontal and vertical ecological fiscal transfers for protecting ecology of cultivated land.

Exploring the elements that affect farmers’ willingness to protect cultivated land is the key to improving the ecological compensation mechanism for cultivated land protection. The purpose of this study was to analyze regional differences in ecological compensation for cultivated land protection, and to explore the influence of different external environments on farmers’ willingness to engage in cultivated land protection. Based on the Profitable Spatial Boundary Analysis theory (PSBA), GIS spatial analysis technology was used to analyze regional space differences and assess ecological compensation for urban and rural cultivated land protection at the micro scale. The results show that the willingness of farmers to participate in cultivated land protection is affected by the external environment and the ecological compensation offered. The trend of the comprehensive benefit of cultivated land protection ecological compensation (B) is “Λ” from the first layer to the third layer. The B value of the urban–rural junction area is the highest value. This shows that the external environment is favorable for ecological compensation in this area, which has a positive effect on farmers’ willingness to protect cultivated land. B < 0 in the first and third layer, which has a depressant effect on farmers’ willingness to protect cultivated land. The study results contribute to the understanding of the impact of regional differences in the external environmental on ecological compensation and farmers’ willingness to engage in cultivated land protection.

The wetland possesses very important environmental function and ecological benefits. Study on the Wetland Nature Reserve along the Yangtze River in Anqing has become a focus of academic community for its well nature. The resources and function of wetland along the Yangtze River in Anqing were analyzed and the dangers faced by the wetland from agricultural pollution, water conservancy, unreasonable fishery production, invasive species were discussed. In order to promote sustainable development of wetland resources and environment, the suggestions and policies about the protection for Anqing wetland resources and environment were proposed.


<em>Abstract</em>.—Bighead Carp <em>Hypophthalmichthys nobilis </em>and Silver Carp <em>H. molitrix </em>are native in the Yangtze River and extremely important economically and culturally as food fishes; however, the two species have declined due to overfishing and anthropogenic modifications to hydrology and water quality. Bighead Carp and Silver Carp were imported to North America in the early 1970s, escaped confinement, and have now become undesirable and problematic invasive species. The two carps have become the most abundant fish species in many portions of their invaded range, which continues to expand. We compare the biology, status, and management of these species between their natal range in the Yangtze River and their invaded habitats of the Mississippi River basin.

Based on the data of economic, social and ecological benefits of cultivated land in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration from 2005 to 2014, this paper applies multi-factor comprehensive evaluation model and ArcGIS spatial analysis method to explore the dynamic change and regional difference of the cultivated land use efficiency of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. The results showed that the overall efficiency index of cultivated land utilization in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, except the economic benefit index, is rising steadily year by year. Among them, the fluctuation of ecological benefit is the most significant, and in 2010 and 2013, there appeared obvious trough. The utilization efficiency of cultivated land in different cities is relatively large, and in terms of distribution pattern, northwest is high, southeast low. The farmland utilization comprehensive efficiency high value district is Ziyang city, Chengdu city and Meishan city. In the future, the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration should pay more attention to the improvement of agro-ecological environment, control the application of pesticides and fertilizers, and promote the coordinated development of the economic, social and ecological benefits of cultivated land.
