With the continuous expansion of wind power integration scale, the stability of the power system has been greatly affected, especially the changes of the traditional grid structure, which makes the system splitting face major challenges. In the context of the widespread use of wind energy, a bi-level planning method considering optimal location-allocation of wind power to reduce the difficulty of splitting was proposed. Based on the slow coherence theory, a correlation model that reflects the coherence degree of system buses was constructed. Furthermore, an improved intelligent optimization algorithm was proposed to solve the optimal location-allocation of wind power. The proposed method was conducted in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) 39-bus system to centralize the splitting scope. It is verified that the proposed method can reduce the system’s possible oscillation modes to realize that less instability occurs under small disturbances, and restrict the range of splitting sections under large disturbances, which ensures the effectiveness of splitting devices to maintain the stable operation of the power grid.

Abstract The increasing wind power integration with power grid has forced the situation to improve the reliability of wind generators for stable operation. One important problem with induction generator based wind farm is its low ride through capability to the grid voltage disturbance. Any disturbance such as voltage dip may cause wind farm outages. Since wind power contribution is in predominant percentage, such outages may lead to stability problem. The proposed strategy is to use dynamic voltage controller (DVR) to compensate the voltage disturbance. The DVR provides the wind generator the ability to remain connected in grid and improve the reliability. The voltage dips due to symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults are considered for analysis. The vector control scheme is employed for fault compensation which uses software phase locked loop scheme and park dq0 transformation technique. Extensive simulation results are included to illustrate the control and operation of DVR.

Wind power forecasting is a crucial part for the safe and stable operation of wind power integration, which is under the influence of different factors such as wind speed, wind direction, atmospheric pressure. These factors bring randomness and volatility to wind power which makes it less predictable. While, there are very limited studies on describing the uncertainty of wind power. Therefore, to providing additional information on the uncertainty and volatility, a kernel-based on Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) incorporating the hyper-parameters intelligent optimization method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the hyper-parameters solution of GPR is formulated as a nonlinear optimization with constraints. Then, an intelligent algorithm named Brain-storming optimization (BSO) is adopted to obtain the optimal hyper-parameters of GPR. Furthermore, the performance is examined on short-term wind power data. Most importantly, the GPR incorporating BSO can avoid the hyper-parameters at local optimum.

Owing to the fluctuating and the randomness of wind speed, the influences of large-scale wind power integration on the grid should not be ignored. The output fluctuation of wind farm has serious effect on power quality, causing the problems like voltage flicker and harmonic, it will pose a threat on the safe and stable operation of power grid. This paper mainly analyzed the influence mechanism of wind power integration on power quality and studied the detection method of power quality. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by the simulation of real operation data of a wind farm in Jilin Province. The method presented in this paper will provide a reference for the establishment of Chinas wind power testing system and has important engineering significance.
