A total of 14 species in seven tingid genera have been described from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese (Kachin) amber from northern Myanmar, with very distinct paleofauna. Here, a new species of a new genus, Burmavianaida anomalocapitata gen. et sp. nov., is described from Kachin amber. This new species can be readily distinguished from the other described tingid taxa by the apparently smaller body and the structures of the pronotum and hemelytron. Burmavianaida gen. nov. shares the diagnostic characters with two clades composed of three extant subfamilies (Cantacaderinae + Tinginae) and Vianaidinae and may represent an extinct clade distinct from them. To the best of our knowledge, B. anomalocapitata sp. nov. is the smallest species of Tingidae among over 2600 described species. Our new finding supports the hypothesis of the miniaturization phenomenon of insects in Kachin amber, as suggested by previous studies.

AbstractAhnea keejeongi Park and Carlton (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), a new genus and new species of New Zealand endemic beetle belonging to the supertribe Faronitae is described. Six previously described species are included to this genus and four species are synonymised as follow: Sagola dissonans Broun, 1921 and S. planicula Broun, 1921 under Ahnea ventralis (Broun, 1912); S. carinata Broun, 1912 and S. lineiceps Broun, 1921 under Ahnea lineata (Broun, 1893). A key to species, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided.

We report a new species of Spermophilus ( Rodentia: Sciuridae), here designated as S. torosensis sp. nov., distributed in the Taurus Mountains in southern Anatolia, Turkey. A total of 161 specimens of the genus Spermophilus from Turkey and Iran were analyzed for their morphological, morphometric, and karyological characteristics. Uni- and multi-variate statistical analyses of morphologic data for 95 adult specimens yielded 4 distinct groups. Taxonomic evaluations classified the specimens into 4 species Spermophilus citellus, S. xanthopymnus, S. fulvus and S. torosensis sp. nov. Morphometrics, coat coloration, a brush-shaped tail, and a NFa value of 72 are diagnostic characters that distinguish S. torosensis sp. nov. from the other species. In Turkey, S. torosensis sp. nov. was found in 6 locations. The karyotype of S. fulvus also is described for the first time as 2n= 36, NFa= 70 and NFa= 66; new karyotypic data is reported for S. xanthoprymnus from Iran and Turkey.

The new genus Douglasdeweya C. Yen, J.L. Yang & B.R. Baum is based on results from cytogenetical and morphological findings — PPStSt genome — and is segregated from the genus Pseudoroegneria — StSt and StStStSt genome. Several characters, such as the erect spike with very finely spinulose pubescence along the two main angles of the rachis, and glumes and lemmas with a very strong midrib forming a keel-like structure distinguish Douglasdeweya from Pseudoroegneria, which has a rather lax spike, a rachis that is glabrous along the two main angles, and glumes and lemmas without a keel-like structure. The genus is named in memory of Dr. Douglas R. Dewey, an outstanding scientist who worked on the biosystematics of the perennial Triticeae. Two species are described, one of which is new, Douglasdeweya wangyii C. Yen, J.L. Yang & B. R. Baum and the other a new combination Douglasdeweya deweyi (K.B. Jensen, S.L. Hatch, & J.K. Wipff) C. Yen, J.L. Yang, & B.R. Baum. A key to the two species is provided, together with details on their taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution, and cytology.Key words: PPStSt genome, narrow endemic.

Primagistemus gen. nov. (Acari: Stigmaeidae) is described and its taxonomic position discussed. Adult females of this new genus are distinguished from those of Agistemus by having four pairs of setae on the propodosomal shield, by lacking postocular bodies, by having three pairs of aggenital setae and by having two setae on genu II. They are also distinguished from those of Stigmaeus by the terminal eupathidia on the palptarsus mostly fused and subterminally separated into three minute prongs, by both subcapitular setae posterolaterad of the pharynx, by having only one seta on coxa II, and by lacking endopodal shields around coxae III-IV. A new species, Primagistemus wuyiensis, from leaves of Araucaria sp. in Fujian Province of China, is described and illustrated. This new species is distinguished from the other species of the genus from New Zealand, Primagistemus loadmani (Wood) comb. nov. (transferred from Stigmaeus), by the distally truncated dorsal body setae and by setal lengths.

This paper presents a new genus, two new species, and several new records of mites associated with insects and soil in Cuba. A new monotypic genus of Laelapidae, Acantholaelaps gen. nov., is described to accommodate a new species, A. strategus sp. nov., on the basis of adult female and male specimens collected on Strategus sarpedon (Burmeister) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) and Strategus surinamensis hirtus Sternberg (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). The other species recorded were Macrocheles merdarius (Berlese) (Macrochelidae), Asca quinquesetosa Wharton (Ascidae), Gaeolaelaps cubaensis sp. nov. (Laelapidae) and Pseudoparasitus missouriensis (Ewing) (Laelapidae).

In this paper we describe a new genus and a new species of Chiridotidae based on specimens collected in shallow water off the South-eastern Brazilian coast. Gymnopipina ikamiaba gen. nov. et sp. nov. is characterized by the complete absence of dermal ossicles in the body, and it differs from the other ossicleless apodids in the number of tentacles and of Polian vesicles, and in the morphology of the calcareous ring. Although not formally tested with a phylogenetic framework, apodids have apparently lost their dermal ossicles multiple times. If these reversions hold true, Gymnopipina gen. nov. represents the fourth independent loss of dermal ossicles in the class Holothuroidea. An identification key to the Brazilian apodid species is also provided.

The genus Cyrtosia Perris (Mythicomyiidae: Platypyginae) was studied in Yazd province in the center of Iran. Three species were collected and identified. A new species, Cyrtosia trivitta sp. nov., is described and its diagnostic characters are illustrated. This species is clearly different from all described species of Cyrtosia in Iran by presence of three black longitudinal stripes on mesonotum, leaving prescutellar area yellow opposite to the other species that have a large seamless black mark.

Yumenia Hong, 1982 preoccupied by Yumenia Hou, 1958, is replaced with Gansucossus (Hemiptera, Palaeontinidae). The diagnostic characters for Gansucossus are presented and synonymies for Gansucossus pectinatus (Hong, 1982) and Gansucossus luanpingensis (Hong, 1983) are established. The diagnostic characters for G. pectinatus and G. luanpingensis are revised. A new species, Gansucossus typicus sp. nov., is described from the Middle Jurassic of Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China. The new genus Daohugoucossus gen. nov. and new species Daohugoucossus solutus sp. nov., are erected based on a hind wing from the Middle Jurassic of Daohugou.

A new genus and a new species, Haplodendron buzwilsoni, from the southeastern Australian mid bathyal are described. This is the first record of the family in the Southern Hemisphere IndoPacific. Diagnostic characters of the new genus are compared with those of other genera in the family. The possible significance of the joint possession, between the new genus and Dendrotion (Dendrotiidae), of a stalk carrying the antennulae and antennae is discussed. New observations on male reproductive structures are made.
