Digital technology is unique in that it enables convergence of access devices and content as well as convergence of industry participant operations and strategy. This digital convergence creates opportunities, and threats, for developing new business models and unique growth strategies for digital product companies. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss examples where digital product companies have taken advantage of digital convergence through horizontal integration strategies that enable them to create unique mixes of products/services and reach larger markets. Actual horizontal integration strategy examples are discussed for several industries where products are in a digital form. In addition, potential cross-industry integration strategies and online intermediary (cybermediary) strategies are identified along with tactical level strategies for mass customization and use of interactivity tools and social networking. Strategic alternatives for introduction, growth, and maturity lifecycle stages are also discussed. The rationale for these strategies and implications for managers of digital product companies are discussed along with directions for future research.

The policy of digital equity aim to close the various issues of digital divide. As digital convergence and informatization progresses, it is becoming more important to better utilize various resources. Therefore, making a qualitative difference about the digital divide issue is urgent, and relevant policies and efforts need to be strengthened to narrow the digital divide. In this regard, the overall improvement of information literacy of the public is required as it can increase the convenience in citizens' everyday lives and can create added value. It is, therefore, necessary to continue the development of policies and projects to narrow the digital divide. The Korean government plans to keep strengthening its support with policies to legislate regulations that narrow the digital divide and provide fair opportunities to access information, and to improve information literacy. The efforts to narrow the digital divide and effective policies to achieve the goal must be continued to relieve social conflict and integrate the society.

Social engineering refers to the practice of manipulating people to divulge confidential information that can then be used to compromise an information system. In many cases, people, not technology, form the weakest link in the security of an information system. This chapter discusses the problem of social engineering and then examines new social engineering threats that arise as voice, data, and video networks converge. In particular, converged networks give the social engineer multiple channels of attack to influence a user and compromise a system. On the other hand, these networks also support new tools that can help combat social engineering. However, no tool can substitute for educational efforts that make users aware of the problem of social engineering and policies that must be followed to prevent social engineering from occurring.
