This article characterizes hypersensitivity reactions during anesthetic-surgical procedures. This integrative literature review was conducted in the LILACS, CINAHL, COCHRANE and MEDLINE databases including papers published from 1966 to September 2011. A total of 17 case reports, two prevalence studies and one cohort study were identified. Latex reactions were mainly type III and the primary source of intraoperative reaction was latex gloves. The average time for clinical manifestation was 59.8 minutes after anesthetic induction; 44.4% of patients reported a reaction to latex at the pre-anesthetic evaluation. It was determined that the history of allergic reactions to latex obtained in the pre-anesthetic evaluation does not ensure the safety of patients if the staff is inattentive to the severity of the issue. There is also a tendency to initially attribute the anaphylactic event to the anesthetic drugs.

Preoperative fasting time and repercussions: integrative reviewAbstract: The objective is to identify evidences in the literature of prolonged fasting time in the surgical patient, including the possible types of feeding and its postoperative consequences. This is an integrative literature review performed in the databases BDENF, LILACS MEDLINE and CINAHL between April and May 2019. We included in this study articles published in full that answered the guiding question. A theme little explored was noticed. Fasting times ranged from 8 hours for solid foods, 2 hours for clear fluids in adults and still others with longer intervals. The most appropriate type of diet is the carbohydrate drink 2 to 4 hours before anesthetic induction. Postoperative consequences were insulin resistance, alteration in healing, increased inflammatory reaction, thirst, irritability and anxiety. The variables studied in this review were relevant to subsidize preoperative nursing care.Descriptors: Fasting, Perioperative Care, Nursing. Computerized auditory training (CAT) is a convenient, low-cost approach to improving communication of individuals with hearing loss or other communicative disorders. A number of CAT programs are being marketed to patients and audiologists. The present literature review is an examination of evidence for the effectiveness of CAT in improving speech perception in adults with hearing impairments. Six current CAT programs, used in 9 published studies, were reviewed. In all 9 studies, some benefit of CAT for speech perception was demonstrated. Although these results are encouraging, the overall quality of available evidence remains low, and many programs currently on the market have not yet been evaluated. Thus, caution is needed when selecting CAT programs for specific patients. It is hoped that future researchers will (a) examine a greater number of CAT programs using more rigorous experimental designs, (b) determine which program features and training regimens are most effective, and (c) indicate which patients may benefit from CAT the most.
