Objective - The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic forced higher education institutions to shift to emergency remote teaching which called for lecturers’ learning management system and other online instruction skills to be developed. The issue is that lecturers were forced to work remotely without time to prepare. The purpose of this paper is to propose an online, self-paced short course for lecturers that covered 9 units including; communication tools, video calling, WhatsApp, menu design, learning theory, content creation, online assessment theory, online assessments and the grade centre. Methodology– A mixed-method research design with participant perspectives was implemented to determine the satisfaction of 125 lecturers who completed the intervention. From 79 who completed the questionnaire with open- and closed-ended questions, it was determined that communication and online assessments were the most sought-after skills and 73.42% stated that they felt the course met their expectations. The skills were broken down and participants were asked to rate – in a five-point Likert scale – how well they were now able to perform the tasks. Finding – The results were as follows showing the level four and five (highest) selections; announcements – 83.54%, send email – 81.01%, content editor – 67.08%, build content (files) – 79.75%, build content (images) – 72.15%, build content (videos) – 70.89%, video conferencing – 58.23%, WhatsApp – 82.28%, course menu design – 73.42%, creating a video in PowerPoint – 58.23%, reflection activities – 44.30%, online tests – 50.63%, online assignments – 50.63%, and managing the grade centre – 48.10%. These results showed that the intervention was successful in quickly and effectively preparing lecturers for online delivery. Type of Paper: Empirical. JEL Classification: D83, I23. Currently, several universities are using the learning management system (LMS) application for administration, documentation, activity reporting, learning activity implementation, and online assignments. SIAKAD is a learning management system application that has been implemented at STIKOM Poltek Cirebon. At SIAKAD, students and lecturers can download and upload materials, view course data and schedule data. However, in SIAKAD there are several features that are still not fulfilled, such as checking attendance data and recapitulation, task recapitulation and automation of calculating final course grades. In this study the Lemskom Poltek Cirebon application was designed using the Asynchronous Learning method. Which aims to complement features that do not exist in SIAKAD. In the Lemskom Poltek Cirebon application, which is designed using the Asynchronous method, it is very appropriate because this method is not based on time and place and is very good at helping in the learning process. So that students can see for themselves the course schedule, their attendance data, and the assignments given by the lecturer at anytime and anywhere along with the information and values they get. Lecturers can see the recapitulation of attendance, and recapitulation of assignments as well as details of what grades are in the courses they teach in more detail and can calculate the final grade automatically.

Traditional teaching and learning methods have undergone a reform shift with the integration of ICT tools, especially learning management systems (LMS). They are emphasized as essential tools in the educational system. This paper examines the use LMS in higher education in the UAE. Based on semi-structured interviews conducted in the winter of 2018 and summer of 2019, the study revealed that 54 participants unanimously identified the highest degree of need for active participation in the investment of modern technologies within their universities. They mentioned a number of opportunities offered by the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) in the emirate educational institutions such as: The ease of organizing and delivering online courses, conducting online assessments, access to and availability of learning materials, the possibility of saving time and money for students and faculties, communication and interactivity. Respondents seem to be aware of some challenges in adopting the Learning Management System in their respective universities, particularly the lack of self-discipline of students in the online environment, the inconsistency of the Learning Management System with some academic programs offered in a number of emirate higher educational institutions, limited use of Arabic language and technical illiteracy.

The global pandemic caused by the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent mandatory lockdown made university students spend more time at home, changing their daily habits including studying, as a consequence of the forced self-confinement. In this article we describe the changes observed in the connection patterns to the institutional learning management system of the students enrolled in a Spanish online university during the lockdown. Our results show that the students were more likely to connect to the virtual campus, they did so more evenly over the days of the week, and more concentrated in a few hours in the central part of the days. Interestingly, the changes in students’ connection patterns were not associated with their socio-demographic characteristics, although they were affected by their academic trajectory and their academic enrolment.
