Let G be a (p, q) graph. Let f be an injective map from V(G) to {1, 2, …, p}. For each edge xy, assign the label         y x or         x y according as x > y or y > x. f is called a parity combination cordial labeling (PCC-labeling) if f is a one to one map and | ef (0) − ef (1) |  1 where ef (0) and ef (1) denote the number of edges labeled with an even number and odd number respectively. A graph with a parity combination cordial labeling is called a parity combination cordial graph (PCC-graph). In this paper we investigate the PCC- labeling of the graph G, It is obtained by identifying a vertex vk in G and a vertex of degree n in Hn, where G is a PCC graph with p vertices and q edges under f with f(vk ) = 1.

An injective map [Formula: see text] is said to be an edge pair sum labeling if the induced vertex function [Formula: see text] defined by [Formula: see text] is one-to-one where [Formula: see text] denotes the set of edges in [Formula: see text] that are incident with the vertex [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is either of the form [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text] accordingly as [Formula: see text] is even or odd. A graph with an edge pair sum labeling is called an edge pair sum graph. In this paper, we prove that the graphs [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], book graph and [Formula: see text] admit edge pair sum labeling.

Abstract Generalized permutohedra are deformations of regular permutohedra and arise in many different fields of mathematics. One important characterization of generalized permutohedra is the Submodularity Theorem, which is related to the deformation cone of the Braid fan. We lay out general techniques for determining deformation cones of a fixed polytope and apply it to the Braid fan to obtain a natural combinatorial proof for the Submodularity Theorem. We also consider a refinement of the Braid fan, called the nested Braid fan, and construct usual (respectively, generalized) nested permutohedra that have the nested Braid fan as (respectively, a coarsening of) their normal fan. We extend many results on generalized permutohedra to this new family of polytopes, including a one-to-one correspondence between faces of nested permutohedra and chains in ordered partition posets, and a theorem analogous to the Submodularity Theorem. Finally, we show that the nested Braid fan is the barycentric subdivision of the Braid fan, which gives another way to construct this new combinatorial object.

A new family of high temperature superconductors based on Pb2Sr2YCu3O9−δ has recently been reported. One method of improving Tc has been to replace Y partially with Ca. Although the basic structure of this type of superconductors is known, the detailed structure is still unclear, and various space groups has been proposed. In our work, crystals of Pb2Sr2YCu3O9−δ with dimensions up to 1 × 1 × 0.25.mm and with Tc of 84 K have been grown and their superconducting properties described. The defects and crystal symmetry have been investigated using electron microscopy performed on crushed crystals supported on a holey carbon film.Electron diffraction confirmed x-ray diffraction results which showed that the crystals are primitive orthorhombic with a=0.5383, b=0.5423 and c=1.5765 nm. Convergent Beam Electron Diffraction (CBED) patterns for the and axes are shown in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively.

The use of fura-2 as an intracellular calcium indicator is complicated by problems of rapid dye leakage and intracellular compartmentalization which is due to a probenecid sensitive anion transporter. In addition there is increasing evidence for localized microdomains of high calcium signals which may not be faithfully reported by fura-2.We have developed a new family of fura-2 analogs aimed at addressing some of these problems. These new indicators are based on a modified bapta which can be readily derivatized to produce fura-2 analogs with a variety of new properties. The modifications do not affect the chromophore and have little impact on the spectral and metal binding properties of the indicator. One of these new derivatives known as FPE3 is a zwitterionic analog of fura-2 that can be loaded into cells as an acetoxymethyl ester and whose retention in cells is much improved. The improved retention of FPE3 is important for both cuvettebased measurements of cell suspensions and for calcium imaging.

A new family of scanning probe microscopes has emerged that is opening new horizons for investigating the fine structure of matter. The earliest and best known of these instruments is the scanning tunneling microscope (STM). First published in 1982, the STM earned the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physics for two of its inventors, G. Binnig and H. Rohrer. They shared the prize with E. Ruska for his work that had led to the development of the transmission electron microscope half a century earlier. It seems appropriate that the award embodied this particular blend of the old and the new because it demonstrated to the world a long overdue respect for the enormous contributions electron microscopy has made to the understanding of matter, and at the same time it signalled the dawn of a new age in microscopy. What we are seeing is a revolution in microscopy and a redefinition of the concept of a microscope.Several kinds of scanning probe microscopes now exist, and the number is increasing. What they share in common is a small probe that is scanned over the surface of a specimen and measures a physical property on a very small scale, at or near the surface. Scanning probes can measure temperature, magnetic fields, tunneling currents, voltage, force, and ion currents, among others.

We present a new family of porphyrin-functionalized coordination star polymers prepared through combination of coordination-driven self-assembly and post-assembly polymerization. Their self-assembly behaviour in water and potential for photodynamic therapy were demonstrated.

A program for providing information to children who are deaf about their deafness and addressing common concerns about deafness is detailed. Developed by a school audiologist and the school counselor, this two-part program is geared for children from 3 years to 15 years of age. The first part is an educational audiology program consisting of varied informational classes conducted by the audiologist. Five topics are addressed in this part of the program, including basic audiology, hearing aids, FM systems, audiograms, and student concerns. The second part of the program consists of individualized counseling. This involves both one-to-one counseling sessions between a student and the school counselor, as well as conjoint sessions conducted—with the student’s permission—by both the audiologist and the school counselor.
