We present a combinatorial formula using skew Young tableaux for the coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for sparse paving matroids. These matroids are known to be logarithmically almost all matroids, but are conjectured to be almost all matroids. We also show the positivity of these coefficients using our formula. In special cases, such as uniform matroids, our formula has a nice combinatorial interpretation.

International audience The Selberg integral is an important integral first evaluated by Selberg in 1944. Stanley found a combinatorial interpretation of the Selberg integral in terms of permutations. In this paper, new combinatorial objects "Young books'' are introduced and shown to have a connection with the Selberg integral. This connection gives an enumeration formula for Young books. It is shown that special cases of Young books become standard Young tableaux of various shapes: shifted staircases, squares, certain skew shapes, and certain truncated shapes. As a consequence, enumeration formulas for standard Young tableaux of these shapes are obtained. L’intégrale de Selberg est une partie intégrante importante abord évaluée par Selberg en 1944. Stanley a trouvé une interprétation combinatoire de la Selberg aide en permutations. Dans ce papier, de nouveaux objets combinatoires “livres de Young” sont introduits et présentés à avoir un lien avec l’intégrale de Selberg. Cette connexion donne une formule d'énumération pour les livres de Young. Il est démontré que des cas spéciaux de livres de Young deviennent tableaux standards de Young de formes diverses: escaliers décalés, places, certaines formes gauches et certaines formes tronquées. En conséquence, l’énumération des formules pour tableaux standards de Young de ces formes sont obtenues.

Let $\rho$ be a non-negative integer. A $\rho$-removed uniform matroid is a matroid obtained from a uniform matroid by removing a collection of $\rho$ disjoint bases. We present a combinatorial formula for Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials of $\rho$-removed uniform matroids, using skew Young Tableaux. Even for uniform matroids, our formula is new, gives manifestly positive integer coefficients, and is more manageable than known formulas.

In this paper we study inversions within restricted fillings of Young tableaux. These restricted fillings are of interest because they describe geometric properties of certain subvarieties, called Hessenberg varieties, of flag varieties. We give answers and partial answers to some conjectures posed by Tymoczko. In particular, we find the number of components of these varieties, give an upper bound on the dimensions of the varieties, and give an exact expression for the dimension in some special cases. The proofs given are all combinatorial.

Trapezoidal inequalities for functions of divers natures are useful in numerical computations. The authors have proved an identity for a generalized integral operator via twice differentiable preinvex function. By applying the established identity, the generalized trapezoidal type integral inequalities have been discovered. It is pointed out that the results of this research provide integral inequalities for almost all fractional integrals discovered in recent past decades. Various special cases have been identified. Some applications of presented results to special means have been analyzed. The ideas and techniques of this paper may stimulate further research.

A closed form expression for a triple integral not previously considered is derived, in terms of the Lerch function. Almost all Lerch functions have an asymmetrical zero-distribution. The kernel of the integral involves the product of the logarithmic, exponential, quotient radical, and polynomial functions. Special cases are derived in terms of fundamental constants; results are summarized in a table. All results in this work are new.

This paper considers the problem of the convergence of the consensus algorithm for multiple agents in a directed network where each agent is governed by double-integrator dynamics and coupling time delay. The advantage of this protocol is that almost all the existing linear local interaction consensus protocols can be considered as special cases of the present paper. By combining algebraic graph theory and matrix theory and studying the distribution of the eigenvalues of the associated characteristic equation, some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for reaching the second-order consensus. Finally, an illustrative example is also given to support the theoretical results.

International audience We obtain a nonrecursive combinatorial formula for the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials which holds in complete generality and which is simpler and more explicit than any existing one, and which cannot be linearly simplified. Our proof uses a new basis of the peak subalgebra of the algebra of quasisymmetric functions. On montre une formule combinatoire pour les polynômes de Kazhdan-Lusztig qui est valable en toute généralité. Cette formule est plus simple et plus explicite que toutes les autres formules connues; de plus, elle ne peut pas être simplifiée linéairement. La preuve utilise une nouvelle base pour la sous-algèbre des sommets de l’algèbre des fonctions quasi-symmetriques.
