Thiazolopyrimidine 2 was obtained from the reaction of dihydropyrimidinone with chloroacetic acid and benzaldehyde. Thiazolopyrimidine 2 containing an α,β-unsaturated ketonic function [-CH=CH-CO-] has been used as a component of Michael addition with an equimolar amount of dinucleophiles to give a series of novel tetracyclic pyrimidine derivatives. Treatment of thiazolopyrimidine 2 with uracil, aminotriazole, cyanoacetic acid hydrazide, o-phenylenediamine or diaminopyridine afforded the corresponding pyridopyrimidine, triazolopyrimidine, pyrazolone, benzodiazepine and triazepine derivative, respectively. The detailed synthesis, spectroscopic data, and antitumor activity for synthesized compounds were reported.

1. C14-labeled ß-aminopropionitrile distributed throughout the egg contents within 10 minutes postinjection. By ion exchange chromatography and electrophoretic analysis three major components of the extractable dialyzable radioactive material could be demonstrated, representing at least 80 per cent of the total. The acidic and basic components were identified as ß-aminopropionitrile and cyanoacetic acid, while the fraction isoelectric at pH 5.3, consisting of two components, remained unidentified. 2. Less than 1 molecule of ßAPN per 100 molecules of protein was present in the highly purified extractable lathyritic bone collagen indicating that binding of the lathyrogen is not a factor in collagen extractability. 3. The proximity of ßAPN to collagen in bone is not essential to its extractability. 4. The effect of incubation temperature of the embryo on collagen extractability suggests the involvement of a metabolic process in this phenomenon.

4-Cyano-1,1'-biphenyl derivatives bearing ω-hydroxyalkyl substituents were reacted with methyl 3-chloro-3-oxopropionate or cyanoacetic acid, giving liquid-crystalline linear malonates and cyanoacetates. These compounds formed monotropic nematic phases at 62 °C down to ambient temperature upon cooling from the isotropic liquid. The mesomorphic properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction (WAXS).
