In 1844, the famous German biologist Fritz Müller published his dissertation about the leech fauna of lakes in Berlin. This study not only addressed the occurrence of leeches in the different lakes, but also contains the description of a new species -Glossiphoniaverrrucata(Fr. Müller, 1844). Unfortunately, he never mentioned how many specimens he found and where he deposited the material of his dissertation research. Thus, it came as a surprise that the material appeared in the small leech collection of the Zoological Museum of the University of Greifswald. Here, we provide an overview of the material focusing especially on the four syntypes ofG.verrucata. Since this is a rarely found species, we further explored historical material from the type locality, Lake Tegel, held in other museums. Our survey revealed that the material collected by Müller is the only one known to date from the species-rich Lake Tegel, which is inhabited by 14 species of freshwater leeches.

Recently, we (Akkari & Enghoff 2011) described a new species of the genus Rharodesmus Schubart, 1960, discussing the taxonomic state of the family Pyrgodesmidae and providing notes on the four genera occurring in the west Palaearctic area. However, we failed to present details on the holotype of the new species, which we now provide in this note in order to make the species name available. Thus, we describe here the new species Rharodesmus tabarkensis Akkari & Enghoff by reference to the full description given in Akkari & Enghoff (2011) with the following information on the type material: Holotype ♂, TUNISIA, NW, Jendouba Governorate, Tabarka, N36°57.8, E8°44.6, alt. < 40 m, coastal slope below the Genoese fort, under stones, 9.iii.2009, N. Akkari & H. Enghoff leg. (Natural History Museum of Denmark, Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen, ‒ ZMUC); Paratypes: 12 ♂♂, 8 ♀♀, 14 juveniles, same locality and date as holotype, N. Akkari & H. Enghoff leg. (ZMUC).

Two new land planarian species, collected in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are described. Their external aspect is similar to that of Imbira marcusi Carbayo et al., 2013 and Pseudogeoplana theresopolitana (Schirch, 1929), respectively. The analysis of the internal organs, however, revealed they belong to the genus Cratera. The male copulatory organs of one species is very different from any other geoplaninid, for the penis papilla holds a large, distal cavity receiving the ejaculatory duct and, furthermore, the papilla projects vertically downwards from the roof of the male atrium. Thus we consider it as a new species, Cratera cuarassu sp. nov. The second species differs from its congeners in that the dorsal insertion of the penis papilla is anterior to the ventral one, and in that the female atrium is narrowed in the anterior portion. The species was found in the type locality of Pseudogeoplana theresopolitana (Schirch, 1929) and compares well with it in the external features. However, since its internal organs are unknown and the type material of the species is seemingly lost, we describe it as Cratera anamariae Carbayo, sp. nov.

The genera Waltzoyphius McCafferty & Lugo-Ortiz and Zelusia Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty are revised in the present paper based on fresh and historical material, including types. New diagnostic features are presented in order to differentiate nymphs of the two species of Waltzoyphius. The adults of both species, and therefore, the adults of the genus are described for the first time. A new species of Zelusia is described, and based on the recognition of this new species, the distribution of Z. principalis Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty appears to be restricted to a small area near the type locality. Adults of Zelusia are also described for the first time, based on the new species.

The genus Petta Malmgren, 1866 is a small and poorly known genus of the annelid family Pectinariidae Quatrefages, 1866. A previous revision of the genus found that the type material of the species P. assimilis McIntosh, 1885 had been lost. While searching for material from the type locality, we were able to examine material from a similar area but collected in much shallower water from off South Africa which represents another undescribed species of Petta. The new species, Petta brevissp. nov., is described and compared to P. assimilis McIntosh, 1885, and a revised key to all species in the genus is provided.

During the expeditions Bathus 4 and Norfolk 2 off New Caledonia, three species pertaining to the genus Crispatotrochus were collected: C. rubescens, C. rugosus, and C. septumdentatus sp. nov. This study presents the new records describing and illustrating all species. Also, citation synonyms, type locality, type material, and distribution are provided. A brief revision of the 13 valid Recent species belonging to this genus (plus C. sp. cf. C. cornu and C. sp. A) and an identification key are proposed.

Capitellids are burrowing, earthworm-like polychaetes. The taxonomy within the group presents significant difficulties, due in part to their relative simplicity. In this study, a catalogue of the capitellid genus Notomastus M. Sars, 1851, is presented and a new species is described from the Southern Gulf of California: Notomastus mazatlanensis sp. nov. The catalogue provides original names and synonymies for 43 species; type locality and location of type materials; records and remarks on systematics and distribution. Type material of 35 species were examined, 31 from which were photographed to illustrate the catalogue. Notomastus mazatlanensis sp. nov. is established based on the presence of finger-like branchiae emerging from the epithelium near to the notopodia. Branchiae are composed by 3–4 filaments, and the first chaetiger is uniramous. A taxonomic key for species distributed in the Gulf of California is presented. In 1957 James R. Beer, Edwin F. Cook and Robert G. Schwab, of the University of Minnesota, conducted an investigation of mammals and their ectoparasites in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona. The area studied included varied habitats in the general vicinity of the Southwestern Research Station of the American Museum of Natural History at Portal. An account of this investigation has now been published (Beer et al., 1959).

We present the description of Phrynus calypso sp. nov. from Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela This species is very similar to Phrynus pulchripes (Pocock), however after examining Colombian specimens of P. pulchripes (ca. type locality), many differences were found. Characters commonly used in diagnosis of Phrynus species are variable and make identification difficult. Differences in a few structures, like pedipalpal spines, could not be enough to provide a useful diagnosis.  It is necessary to account for variation of similar species in conjunction, and select non overlapping groups of characters. Observations in the variation in both species are presented, pointing out sources of confusion, and suggesting alternative characters to support diagnoses. At the moment, details about variation in many species in Phrynus, like that of P. pulchripes, are poorly known, and for this reason a redescription is provided.

The giant water bug fauna from tropical South America remains poorly known. Three species of Belostoma Latreille (Belostoma fittkaui De Carlo, B. sayagoi De Carlo and B. hirsutum Roback & Nieser) have been cited only a few times in the literature. These three species are remarkable since they represent an extreme variation for the genus, with article II of the labium distinctly shorter than article III. Here, the synonymy of B. hirsutum with B. sayagoi is proposed based on examination of type material and additional specimens. Further, B. fittkaui and B. sayagoi are redescribed, including discussion about comparative morphology with congeners. A new species group is proposed for these species and a key to the Belostoma species groups is provided. Distribution records are also updated.
