Species of the genus Oxyscelio Kieffer are egg parasitoids of Orthoptera. The genus is relatively diverse in China, with 34 described species. Some species of the genus are extremely morphologically similar and difficult to identify, especially in males. In this study, DNA barcoding based on sequences of the COI gene was used to discriminate Oxyscelio species from southern China. In total, 49 COI sequences belonging to 22 morphospecies were obtained. The COI sequences worked well for the identification of all the studied species, with intraspecific genetic distances ranging between 0 and 4.3%, while interspecific distances ranged between 7.1% and 19%. Based on both morphological and molecular analyses, five species are described as new: O. amalocarina Mo & Chen, sp. nov., O. apheles Mo & Chen, sp. nov., O. latheticus Mo & Chen, sp. nov., O. stenos Mo & Chen, sp. nov., and O. striae Mo & Chen, sp. nov.

A new species of glomeridellid millipede is described from Guizhou Province, southern China: Tonkinomeris huzhengkunisp. nov. This new epigean species differs very clearly in many structural details, being sufficiently distinct morphologically and disjunct geographically from T. napoensis Nguyen, Sierwald & Marek, 2019, the type and sole species of Tonkinomeris Nguyen, Sierwald & Marek, 2019, which was described recently from northern Vietnam. The genus Tonkinomeris is formally relegated from Glomeridae and assigned to the family Glomeridellidae, which has hitherto been considered strictly Euro-Mediterranean in distribution and is thus new to the diplopod faunas of China and Indochina. Tonkinomeris is re-diagnosed and shown to have perhaps the basalmost position in the family Glomeridellidae. Its relationships are discussed, both morphological and zoogeographical, within and outside the Glomeridellidae, which can now be considered as relict and basically Oriental in origin. Because of the still highly limited array of DNA-barcoding sequences of the COI mitochondrial gene available in the GenBank, the first molecular phylogenetic analysis of Glomerida attempted here shows our phylogram to be too deficient to consider meaningful.

Leuctra adjariae sp. n. and Leuctra georgiae sp. n. (Plecoptera: Leuctridae) are described as two new apterous stonefly species from the Meskheti Range (Lesser Caucasus) in southwestern Georgia. Descriptions and illustrations are provided for both sexes and diagnostic characters are discussed. Males and females of the two species are associated by DNA barcodes. Comparisons with corresponding regions of COI between L. adjariae sp. n. and L. georgiae sp. n. produced K2P genetic distances of 8.38%, values well associated with interspecific variation. The well-supported monophyly as well as results of an ABGD analysis confirms the validity of both new species. Capnioneura gouanerae Vinçon & Sivec, 2011, previously described and known only from Turkey, is reported for the first time for the Caucasus.

The genus Aspidistra is the most diverse in southern China and northern Vietnam. We describe a new species Aspidistra xuansonensis from northern Vietnam including two varieties: A. xuansonensis var. xuansonensis with greenish white perianth and A. xuansonensis var. violiflora with purple perianth. We present DNA barcoding data of plastid psbA-trnH and nuclear 5SNTS regions for these two varieties in comparison with three other species of Aspidistra. Morphology of monopodial shoots of A. xuansonensis is described in detail. A. xuansonensis resembles recently described A. lingyunensis but differs in longer leaf petioles, longer lamina, perianth tube shape (tubular, widened at the base vs. funnel-shaped), higher anther position, and pistil shape (suddenly obconic to nearly umbrella-shaped vs. obconic gradually widened to stigma).

Two new species of Hemileucinae are described from the region of Muzo (Boyaca department) in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. Leucanella bonillensis, new species, is a small greyish species whose closest relatives are L. newmani (Lemaire) and L. acutissima (Walker). It can be distinguished from those two species by several subtle differences in wing pattern and coloration as well as a few characters of the male genitalia, which are overall very conserved within the genus. Cerodirphia zulemae, new species, belongs to the very uniform species-group of C. speciosa (Cramer), characterised by a pink ground colour and the presence of a “Y”-shaped discal mark on the forewing. Based on its male genitalia, the new species is related to C. brunnea (Draudt) and C. apunctata Dias & Lemaire. It may be distinguished from the former by its more vivid ground colour, but detailed examination of the male genitalia are necessary to differentiate it from C. apunctata. Colour pictures of the habitus of the new species and their relatives are provided, and their genital structures are figured as well, including both sexes for C. zulemae. We also provide additional support to these descriptions based on genetic data obtained in the context of a global DNA barcoding campaign recently initiated for saturniid moths. Both L. bonillensis and C. zulemae are unambiguously distinguished from closest relatives based on genetic distances (no intraspecific distances in either case; interspecific distance ranges 5.6–6.6% and 6.7–12.5%, respectively) and inference of phylogenetic hypotheses based on partial sequences of the COI mitochondrial gene. These results emphasize the potential of DNA barcoding to support taxonomic work in species-groups considered difficult to address through morphology.

Species identification by morphological approach requires a high degree of experience, which is difficult and not practical enough for those interested in surveying a broad diversity of organisms. However, molecular or genetic approaches to identify species have been proposed and widely used by most scientists. DNA barcoding was used to identify Macrobrachium species occurring in three coastal lagoons (Badagry, Lagos and Epe) in South-western Nigeria. Samples of prawns for the DNA studies were collected from May to July 2015. The DNA of the Macrobrachium species was extracted using the phenol-chloroform protocol and Norgen tissue kit. Amplification and sequencing of the Macrobrachium species were carried out and further identification was done by comparing with sequenced data in the Genbank. New species of Macrobrachium were obtained in Badagry and Epe Lagoons having a close match with M. asperulum and M. nipponense at 85% and 84% respectively. M. asperulum and M. nipponense are reported in Badagry and Epe Lagoons for the first time.

Four new species of the chordeumatidan millipede genus Nepalella Shear, 1979, family Megalotylidae, are described from caves in southern China: N. troglodytes sp. nov., N. lobata sp. nov., N. jinfoshan sp. nov., and N. wangi sp. nov. Three of them (except N. lobata sp. nov.) are presumed troglobites. Additional locality records of two cave congeners, N. caeca Shear, 1999 and N. grandoides Golovatch, Geoffroy & Mauriès, 2006, are also provided. DNA-barcoding based on the COI mitochondrial gene is documented in this genus and for species of the order Chordeumatida outside Europe for the first time. Interspecific p-distances between Nepalella species amount to 8.5–15.9%, while intraspecific p-distances are 0–6.8%. The species of Nepalella are found to show a surprisingly low genetic distance from the European genus Atractosoma Fanzago, 1876, family Craspedosomatidae Gray in Jones, 1843, potentially based on the very limited number of barcoding sequences of the order Chordeumatida being available.

Four new wood-inhabiting fungal species, Lyomyces bambusinus, L. cremeus, L. macrosporus and L. wuliangshanensis, are proposed based on a combination of morphological and molecular evidence. Lyomyces bambusinus is characterized by resupinate basidiomata with colliculose to tuberculate hymenial surface and broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, slightly thick-walled, smooth basidiospores. Lyomyces cremeus is characterised by resupinate basidiomata with smooth, cream hymenial surface and ellipsoid, hyaline, thin-walled to slightly thick-walled basidiospores. Lyomyces macrosporus is characterized by pruinose basidiomata with reticulate hymenial surface, presence of three kinds of cystidia and larger basidiospores (6.7–8.9 × 4.4–5.4 µm). Lyomyces wuliangshanensis is characterized by coriaceous basidiomata and ellipsoid, hyaline, slightly thick-walled, smooth basidiospores. The phylogenetic analyses based on molecular data of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region sequences revealed that the four new species belonged to Lyomyces. Lyomyces bambusinus grouped with L. sambuci. Lyomyces cremeus clade was sister to a clade comprised of L. microfasciculatus. Lyomyces macrosporus was sister to L. allantosporus. Lyomyces wuliangshanensis was closely related to L. mascarensis.
