Females and males reared from pupae, their pupal exuviae and cocoons, and mature larvae of the Simulium (Gomphostilbia) asakoae species group from various localities in Thailand were morphologically examined. A total of 25 species was identified, including two of four known species (Simulium asakoae Takaoka & Davies and S. chiangdaoense Takaoka & Srisuka), one newly confirmed species (S. myanmarense Takaoka, Srisuka & Saeung, originally described from Myanmar), one newly transferred species (S. inthanonense Takaoka & Suzuki formerly of the S. ceylonicum species group), and 21 new species. Descriptions of all 21 new species are given, and the first full description of the male of S. inthanonense, together with the revised descriptions of its female, pupa, and larva, is also provided. Keys to identify all 27 members of this species group from Thailand are given for females, males, pupae, and larvae. The genetic relationships of all but one species were resolved using COI gene sequence-based analysis. All 26 species were divided into nine subgroups, I–IX, each consisting of two, one, four, nine, one, three, two, one and three species, respectively.

The genus Parapentacentrus Shiraki, 1930 includes two species with long wings. In this paper, we report one new species, P. brevipennis He sp. nov., from Jinping, Yunnan, China. The new species have short forewings and hindwings, and have differences in the shape of supra-anal plate and male genitalia. DNA Barcode (COI gene) of this new species are provided. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

Eight species in the Priocnemis hyalinata species-group are reviewed. The species-group is recorded from Oriental Region for the first time, and one new species, Priocnemis (Priocnemis) yunnanensis Loktionov, Lelej & Xu, sp. nov. (China: Yunnan) is described and illustrated. The lectotype of Salius (Priocnemis) unicolor Gussakovskij is designated. The distribution of P. (P.) hyalinata (Fabricius), P. (P.) fennica Haupt and P. (P.) unicolor (Gussakovskij) is clarified and enlarged within Russia. Keys to species for males and females are given.

The genus Homoeoxipha contains 11 species worldwide with 4 recorded from China. In this study, we reconstructed the gene tree based on COI gene, and reported one new species, H. oscillantenna He sp. nov. The new species is similar to H. eurylobus Ma, Liu & Zhang, but differs in the color of fore femur and the structure of male genitalia. Calling songs and nymph morphology are also provided. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

In Russia, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia the Neoaliturus fenestratus species group includes eight species. Illustrated descriptions, oscillograms of male calling signals, and data on host plants and distribution for all species are given. One new species from European Russia and two new species from Kazakhstan and Central Asia are described, and the synonymy N. fenestratus (Herrich-Schäffer, 1834) = N. lituratus Dubovskiy, 1966, syn. n. is established. Considerations concerning possible modes of diversification of species of this group are provided.

Extensive samplings of benthic fauna along the Iranian coastlines of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman during 2018–2019 resulted in a small series of shrimps of the alpheid genus Salmoneus. Based on a thorough examination of this material, as well as previously collected specimens, one new species, S. rashedi n. sp., is described, whilst a significant range extension of S. chadwickae Ďuriš & Horká, 2016 is reported. Salmoneus rashedi n. sp. is a member of S. gracilipes species group. The present new species differs from other species of the group by a longer rostrum with a short dorsal crest and a single ventral rostral tooth; the species occurs in two colour forms from yellow to reddish orange with some transverse red bands.

There are 23 species of Myrsidea recognized from passerine thraupid hosts. Five new species parasitic on members of this avian family are described. They and their type hosts are Myrsidea rozsai ex the Thick-billed Euphonia, Euphonia laniirostris d'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, M. cruickshanki ex the Carmiol's Tanager, Chlorothraupis carmioli (Lawrence), M. patersoni ex the Grey-headed Tanager, Eucometis penicillata (Spix), M. pagei ex the Crimson-backed Tanager, Ramphocelus dimidiatus Lafresnaye, and M. valimi ex the Tawny-capped Euphonia, Euphonia anneae Cassin. The first species is placed in the bonariensis species group, while the remaining four are placed in the fusca species group. Sequences of a portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene were compared to other species of Myrsidea and were highly divergent.

Cabdio crassus, a new fish species, is described from the Kaladan River in Mizoram, India. The new species is distinguished from all its congeners by having a ventral keel extending from the middle of the chest, between the posterior base of the pectoral fin and along the abdomen up to the anus (vs. more or less keeled median scales from mid-point of abdomen between posterior base of pelvic fin up to anus in all other Cabdio) and 11½–12½ branched anal-fin rays (vs. 7 in C. jaya and 9 in both C. morar and C. ukhrulensis). It is further distinguished from C. morar and C. ukhrulensis by possessing more lateral-line scales (45–51 vs. 38–42 in C. morar and 35–37 in C. ukhrulensis), more predorsal scales (20–23 vs. 17–18 in C. morar and 14 in C. ukhrulensis) and more lateral transverse scales (½7/1/3½ vs. 5/1/2 in both C. morar and C. ukhrulensis). It also differs from C. jaya in having fewer lateral-line scales (45–51 vs. 52–60), more lateral transverse scales (½7/1/3½ vs. 5/1/3) and more pharyngeal tooth-rows (3 vs. 2). Furthermore, the cytochrome c oxidase sub unit I (coi) gene sequence separates Cabdio crassus from all other Cabdio species (interspecies distance ranges from 7.8–12.3%). The anomalies observed among the GenBank sequences of the genus Cabdio are discussed and resolved.

Two new black fly species, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) dinakarani sp. nov. and Simulium (Gomphostilbia) krishnani sp. nov. are described based on reared adult, pupal and larval specimens collected from the Western Ghats of India. These two new species are placed in the Simulium batoense species-group of the subgenus Gomphostilbia Enderlein. The morphological characters of two new species are compared with other related species of batoense species-group in India. The COI gene has successfully differentiated these two new species from its allies, S. (G.) panagudiense and S. (G.) takaokai of the batoense species group and the phylogenetic analysis by using COI gene sequences supporting its morphological classification.

The Helina obtusipennis species-group is erected for nine species of Helina in the Palaearctic and Oriental regions, namely H. atlantica (Tiensuu), H. ciliatocosta (Zetterstedt), H. eurymetopa Emden, H. macrocera Hennig, H. mandschurica Hennig, H. medogensis sp. nov., H. obtusipennis (Fallén), H. setigera (Pokorny), and H. spinicosta ( Zetterstedt). These species are Palaearctic in distribution except for H. eurymetopa Emden and H. medogensis, which are known from the Oriental Region. Members of this group can be easily differentiated from those of other Helina species-groups by their broad frons in both sexes with one or two pairs of upper orbital setae. A key to the males of the H. obtusipennis species-group is given.
