The discovery of a new genus of Heatherellidae in New Zealand has led us to revise this enigmatic family and its constituent genera. Aheatherella n. gen., based on A. mira n. sp. from the North Island of New Zealand, lacks some of the derived character states that link the Australian Heatherella, most notably the lack of sexual dimorphism in the dorsal shields and in the presence of peritremes in adult Aheatherella. Heatherella osleri n. sp. is described from New South Wales, extending the distribution of this genus beyond Queensland. New collection records of H. callimaulos and a key to the genera and species of the family are provided. We propose that the Heatherellidae—previously placed in its own cohort outside the Gamasina—are best considered a superfamily of gamasine mites within the subcohort Epicriiae.

Paramunnid species of Southern Hemisphere cold-water Austronanus Hodgson, 1910 and related genera are characterised by simple, smooth, flattened, rather elongate oval bodies, a broadly projecting frontal head margin, well-developed, short, mostly distally bulging eyestalks with ommatidia, pereonites with lateral margins contiguous, rounded or truncate, and dorsally visible coxae V–VII. Just and Wilson (2004) rejected synonymy of Austronanus with Paramunna Sars proposed by Nordenstam (1933), following a revision of the latter genus. The type species, Austronanus glacialis Hodgson, 1910, is re-described based on topotypic material from McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, (the holotype is a small manca). The types of Paramunna dentata Nordenstam, 1933 and P. dubia Hale, 1937 are re-described and the two species referred to Austronanus together with three new Antarctic and subantarctic species, A. aucklandensis, A. gelidus and A. mawsoni. Paramunna patagoniensis Winkler, 1994 is redescribed and made the type species of a new genus, Xigonus. A new genus, Stephenseniellus, is established for two new species from the subantarctic islands south of New Zealand and Australia, S. palliolatipes (type species) from Macquarie Island, and S. serraticornis (originally reported by Stephensen, 1927 as “Paramunna (serrata (Richardson) ?”) from Auckland Island.

Dilemma, a new genus of sessile septibranch bivalves is described. The new taxon encompasses at least three species, of which two are new: D. frumarkernorum new species, from off the Florida Keys, D. spectralis new species, from off Vanuatu, and “Corculum” inexpectatum Crozier, 1966, from off the Three Kings Islands, New Zealand, known only from its shell. The absence of ctenidia and presence of a septum, size and arrangement of siphons and siphonal tentacles, extensive fusion of the mantle margins allocate the new genus within the septibranch bivalves. A siphonal area with 15 tentacles, a large and eversible incurrent siphon, ostial apertures in the septum, and a hermaphroditic reproductive system suggest inclusion in the Poromyidae. The presence of three paired groups of septal ostia in the new genus is a feature shared with poromyids in the genus Cetoconcha. Unusual symmetry and form constitute the most striking features of the new genus. There is a strong anteroposterior compression and lateral expansion associated with ca. 30º rotation of the largest dimension (height) in relation to the anteroposterior axis. The shell hinge includes a single tooth and socket on each valve, and an external, but deeply sunken ligament. The two new species, mutually distinguishable by shell and anatomical characters, are known from live-collected specimens found adhering to rocks by means of robust byssus, which indicates attachment for life. The presence of ostracod remains in the digestive tract of one specimen of one of the new species and of a cirolanid isopod in the stomach of the holotype of the second new species are evidence of predation. Although predation by infaunal and free-living bivalves is known to occur throughout the Anomalodesmata, in particular within the septibranchs, discovery of the new genus reveals an unusual instance of predation by sessile, permanently attached mollusks.

A new genus, Mapuchea gen. nov. from Chile, is described with Myerslopia chilensis NIELSON, 1996 (type species) and two new species (Mapuchea burckhardti sp. nov. and Mapuchea hamiltoni sp. nov.). The nymphs of an unidentfied species of Mapuchea are also described. Four new species of the New Zealand genus Myerslopia Ev. (M. rakiuraensis sp. nov., M. whakatipuensis sp. nov., M. tawhai sp. nov. and M. tearohai) are described. Additional data on the distribution of some species of the genus Pemmation HMLT. are also presented.
