In this article, based on the research of point cloud acquisition, data preprocessing and surface refactoring of reverse engineering, we analyzed the function and process of the reversing software—IMAGEWARE so as to provide reverse engineering design methods to reversing style design of curved surface refactoring and re-design of products.

Introduced reverse engineering technology and working principle. Researched reverse design process of the complex curved surface "spider". The data were collected by means of multiple scanning measuring with laser scanner. Used Geomagic Studio software for date point cloud processed of complex curved surface. Used UG software for surface reconstruction designed. Product reduction and improvement of the design were finished rapidly and high quality. Model of spider was printed with rapid prototyping technology. Compared with physical, the model’s reliability and accuracy were verified by reverse engineering design.Keywords: complex surface; reverse engineering technology; UG; Geomagic Studio software

Reverse engineering technology has been widely used in engineering design field. This paper proposed a CATIA-modeling-based reverse engineering technology for vehicle rear axle design. The general process for reverse engineering includes the pretreatment of the point cloud data, the establishment of the grid, the surface reconstruction of parts, the analysis of curved surface, and so on. Finally, the paper puted forward practical and feasible solution to the problem.

The product design of curved surface shape is fashionable in current industrial design region. Reverse engineering is one of the most frequently-used CAID methods in current industrial design. This article introduces the specific steps to do reverse engineering design applying to ALIAS software, emphasizes that the combination of reverse engineering and NC manufacturing technology or RP technology can greatly shorten the product developing and researching period of the enterprise so as to produce opportunity for new product to enter the market and bring huge economical benefit for enterprise. It is deeply paid attention by manufacturing industry.

This article briefly introduces the concept, processes and key technologies of reverse engineering. It demonstrate the feasibility and significance of application of reverse engineering technology on beverage packaging by rebuilding the model for a beverage bottle with complex geometries: firstly, acquiring point cloud data of the beverage bottle by 3D laser scanning system; then processing point cloud data and materializing model by using reverse engineering software; finally, rebuilding CAD model. The application could provide a new method of designing beverage packaging.

In this paper 110 female undergraduates in Soochow University are measured by using 3D non-contact measurement system and manual measurement. 3D point cloud data of human body is taken as research objects by using anti-engineering software, and secondary development of point cloud data is done on the basis of optimizing point cloud data. In accordance with the definition of the human chest width points and other feature points, and in the operability of the three-dimensional point cloud data, the width, thickness, and length dimensions of the curve through the chest width point are measured. Classification of body type is done by choosing the ratio values as classification index which is the ratio between thickness and width of the curve. The generation rules of the chest curve are determined for each type by using linear regression method. Human arm model could be established by the computer automatically. Thereby the individual model of the female upper body mannequin modeling can be improved effectively.

Abstract This paper introduces a novel reverse engineering technique for the reconstruction of editable CAD models of mechanical parts' assemblies. The input is a point cloud of a mechanical parts' assembly that has been acquired as a whole, i.e. without disassembling it prior to its digitization. The proposed framework allows for the reconstruction of the parametric CAD assembly model through a multi-step reconstruction and fitting approach. It is modular and it supports various exploitation scenarios depending on the available data and starting point. It also handles incomplete datasets. The reconstruction process starts from roughly sketched and parameterized geometries (i.e 2D sketches, 3D parts or assemblies) that are then used as input of a simulated annealing-based fitting algorithm, which minimizes the deviation between the point cloud and the reconstructed geometries. The coherence of the CAD models is maintained by a CAD modeler that performs the updates and satisfies the geometric constraints as the fitting process goes on. The optimization process leverages a two-level filtering technique able to capture and manage the boundaries of the geometries inside the overall point cloud in order to allow for local fitting and interfaces detection. It is a user-driven approach where the user decides what are the most suitable steps and sequence to operate. It has been tested and validated on both real scanned point clouds and as-scanned virtually generated point clouds incorporating several artifacts that would appear with real acquisition devices.
