An operation betweenness based method to assess overloaded lines is proposed. Based on electrical network theory, firstly the branch current sharing factors are deduced; then the operation betweenness of transmission line is defined; finally, on this basis the overload vulnerability of transmission line is assessed. In the proposed method, the impacts of both topological structure and operation modes of power network on vulnerability are considered for the assessment. The physical meaning of the proposed method is determinate and conforms to actual condition of power system, and this method avoids the defect in the complicated network model that the power flows only flow along the shortest path. The correctness of the proposed assessment method is verified by simulation results of IEEE 39-bus system.

Based on Java-Bali grid disturbance data, the 66kV transmission lines that is close to or intersect with 150kV or 500kV transmission line is often experienced earth fault due to insulator flashover. The insulator flashover can be caused by indirect lightning strike since lightning strikes tend to strike higher structure. Therefore, this paper will determine the effect of indirect lightning strike on 150kV or 500kV transmission line to 66kV transmission line by modeling and simulation using application of transient analysis. Variation of lightning peak current magnitude and gap between 66kV transmission line and transmission line with higher voltage is performed during simulation. The range of peak current magnitude follows the data from lightning detection systems, while the value of gap follows the data from actual condition. It is found that higher current peak and closer gap will cause higher transient overvoltage on insulator of 66kV transmission line thus insulator flashover may occur more frequent. Addition of earth wire on 66kV transmission line and gap between each transmission by organizing the sag of conductor can be performed to minimize the insulator flashover.

Being one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, Bangladesh needs to upgrade its electrical network and aim to reduce dependency on fossil fuel-based energy. For the aging and ever-expanding power network, it is necessary to have a smart substation in order to provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable electrical power. As Bangladesh is looking to integrate Distributed Generation (DG) in the power system, it is high time to think about integrating a smart distribution substation into its power network. In this paper, an investigation of the current power generation structure of Bangladesh was conducted and is described. The major focus was given to the upgradation of the existing substation and distribution setup of Bangladesh by providing suitable architectures, technologies, and communication protocols. Detailed studies of Bangladesh’s prospects to incorporate the new technology and renewable energy into its power network are discussed. ETAP was used to simulate the prospective system to show the feasibility of the prospective smart distribution substation in Bangladesh’s power network.

Multiangle social network recommendation algorithms (MSN) and a new assessment method, called similarity network evaluation (SNE), are both proposed. From the viewpoint of six dimensions, the MSN are classified into six algorithms, including user-based algorithm from resource point (UBR), user-based algorithm from tag point (UBT), resource-based algorithm from tag point (RBT), resource-based algorithm from user point (RBU), tag-based algorithm from resource point (TBR), and tag-based algorithm from user point (TBU). Compared with the traditional recall/precision (RP) method, the SNE is more simple, effective, and visualized. The simulation results show that TBR and UBR are the best algorithms, RBU and TBU are the worst ones, and UBT and RBT are in the medium levels.
