Principles and Strategies for Promoting Coordinated Development of Wind Power and Power Grids in China

Based on an analysis of the misunderstanding and problems concerning wind power development, this paper summarizes the experiences of coordinated development of wind power and power grids in typical countries, proposes the principles and strategies for the coordinated development of wind power and power grids in China. Technically, bidirectional friendly technologies should be deployed to ensure the security of power system. In regulatory term, a complete and standardized regulatory strategy is key to harmonious interaction among different stakeholders concerning wind development. Incentive policies should be comprehensive, foreseeable and sustainable. Related measures and suggestions for large scale development of wind power in China are put forward.

As a kind of renewable clean energy, the constant access of wind power to power grids is bound to have a great impact on the power system. Based on the grid structure in Fuxin, this paper will state the difficulty of peak regulation and the matter of wasting wind power caused by the large-scale wind power integration and put forward some reasonable methods for using the wasting wind power in the heating in winter. The relevant results indicate that capacity of local consumption of wasting wind power can be improved. Under the circumstances, it can be conductive to solve the problem of wasting wind power results from the difficulty of peak regulation as well as inspire the power system planners.

Due to a series of supporting policies in recent years, China wind power has developed rapidly through a large-scale and centralized mode. This paper analyzes the two major concerns faced by China’s wind power development: wind generation reliability and wind energy balancing. More specifically, wind farm tripping-off-grid incidents and wind power curtailment issues, which caused huge economical loss, are investigated in details. Based on operation experience of large wind power bases, technical recommendations and economic incentives are proposed to improve wind power integration and power grid reliability. As a summary and outlook of wind power development in China, this paper provides a reference on future wind power development for other countries.

This study examines the primary planning research of Chinese wind power development. In recent year, wind power in China is developed rapidly which is dealing with many challenges and risks caused by limited primary energy resources and climate changes. Facing these challenges and risks, a better planning method of wind power is essentially. This research points out planning method of wind power consumption access to power grid. Based on wind power farm size and distribution, linked to power demand requirement of the future, research will put forward a better transmission power grid planning which adapted all kinds of wind power industry base.

As the importance of renewable generating resources has grown around the world, South Korea is also trying to expand the proportion of renewable generating resources in the power generation sector. Among the various renewable energy sources, wind generating resources are emerging as a key alternative to conventional power generations in the electricity sector in Korea accounted for 17.7 GW of total capacity by 2030. As wind generating resources are gradually replacing traditional generating resources, the system security and reliability are negatively affected because of the variability, due to intermittent outputs. Therefore, existing power grids will need to be correctly re-measured to cover the large scale of renewable energy, including wind generation. To expand the grid, we must understand the characteristics of renewable energy and the impact of its adoption in the grid. In this paper, we analyze various characteristics of wind power generation, and then we propose a probabilistic power output modeling method to consider the uncertainty of wind power generation. For the probabilistic approach, Monte-Carlo simulation is used in the modeling method. The modeled wind power outputs can help planning for the reinforcement and expansion of power systems to expand the capacity for large-scale renewable energy in the future. To verify the proposed method, some case studies were performed using empirical data, and probabilistic power flow calculation was performed by integrating large-scale wind power generation to the Jeju Island power system. The probabilistic method proposed in this paper can efficiently plan power system expansion and play a key strategy of evaluating the security of the power system through the results of stochastic power flow calculation.

Variable renewable generation, primarily from wind and solar, introduces new uncertainties in the operation of power systems. This paper describes and applies a method to quantify how wind power development will affect the use of short-term automatic reserves in the future South African power system. The study uses a scenario for wind power development in South Africa, based on information from the South African transmission system operator (Eskom) and the Department of Energy. The scenario foresees 5% wind power penetration by 2025. Time series for wind power production and forecasts are simulated, and the duration curves for wind power ramp rates and wind power forecast errors are applied to assess the use of reserves due to wind power variability. The main finding is that the 5% wind power penetration in 2025 will increase the use of short-term automatic reserves by approximately 2%.

Wind power development, whilst welcomed by many as a potentially green source of energy, also gives rise to considerable local resistance. Drawing on three case studies from coastal Norway (Frøya, Haramsøy, and Egersund), the present article sets out to reflect on life in anticipation of wind power development. Reflecting on the nature of life in anticipation of undesired wind power developments, with implications for how life is lived in dread of imminent adversities in general (such as climate change, pandemics, and disaster risks), these case studies focus on how communities relate to the future and how they perceive and strive to organise so as to shape outcomes. A central point raised in this article is that wind power projects could become more socially, environmentally and economically sustainable if greater attention is paid to working with communities to reduce distrust and uncertainties before, during and after such projects. Hence, relational work carried out that may shape the affective state of anticipation prior to and during wind farm construction can be understood as crucial to the sustainability of large-scale green infrastructure projects.
