In order to study the optimal network of feeder bus lines for rail stations, this paper established an optimization model with the objective of minimizing the consume time and operating costs of unit traveler, and proposed an iterative algorithm to solve the model and then used an example to describe the practicality of the model and the algorithm.

The feeder bus network design problem is researched in this paper, aiming at connecting with the urban rail transit as well as possible. In solving the problem, a set of process in locating feeder bus routes is presented first, and then an optimization model of determining feeder bus network is established. The genetic algorithm (GA) is used in solving the problem and it is implemented in VC++ language. Finally, a case study is presented based on the existing rail transit line 3 in Dalian, with optimized the feeder bus routes obtained. The result also shows that the model and the algorithm are feasible in solving the problem.

Sometimes, the evacuation measure may seem to be the best choice as an emergency response. To enable an efficiency evacuation, a network optimization model which integrates lane-based reversal design and routing with intersection crossing conflict elimination for evacuation is constructed. The proposed bilevel model minimizes the total evacuation time to leave the evacuation zone. A tabu search algorithm is applied to find an optimal lane reversal plan in the upper-level. The lower-level utilizes a simulated annealing algorithm to get two types of “a single arc for an intersection approach” and “multiple arcs for an intersection approach” lane-based route plans with intersection crossing conflict elimination. An experiment of a nine-intersection evacuation zone illustrates the validity of the model and the algorithm. A field case with network topology of Jianye District around the Nanjing Olympics Sports Center is studied to show the applicability of this algorithm.

AbstractLittle research has considered fuzzy scheduling and sequencing problem in operating rooms. Multiple-period fuzzy scheduling and sequencing of patients in operating rooms optimization models are proposed in this research taking into consideration patient‘s preference. The objective of the scheduling optimization model is obtaining minimal undertime and overtime and maximum patients' satisfaction about the assigned date. The objective of sequencing the optimization model is both to minimize overtime and to maximize patients' satisfaction about the assigned time. A real-life case study from a hospital that offers comprehensive surgical procedures for all surgical specialties is considered for illustration. Research results showed that the proposed models efficiently scheduled and sequenced patients while considering their preferences and hospitals operating costs. In conclusion, the proposed optimization models may result in improving patient satisfaction, utilizing hospital's resources efficiently, and providing assistance to decision makers and planners in solving effectively fuzzy scheduling and sequencing problems of operating rooms.

A proper network optimization is needed to deal with problems on the network and to minimize latency in the data flow in a dense network. The data stream is directed into the right channels so that the optimal network speed and latency can be minimized. Spanning tree is one of the algorithms that can be used. The purpose of the Spanning tree is to prevent and reduce the loops in the network by negotiating free path and as well as to increase network uptime through redundancy (back-up). To comprehend spanning tree, the first important thing to know is how bridges and switches perform their functions. The more switches used, the use of the spanning tree becomes more important. With the spanning tree protocol, a broadcast storm can be prevented that can achieved network optimization.
