The workflow management system plays an important role in enterprise information management system. An enterprise workflow contains a lot of business process and their relevancies. These relevancies are important in building workflow management system. This paper proposes a business relevance based workflow localization method to divide the workflow locally. In this method, a workflow is treated as a combination of local processes; therefore single task can be divided into several subtasks. This method can reduce the difficulty and improve the efficiency in building workflow management system. This method has been practically applied to the design and development of steel pipe production supervision control system. The actual results validate the effectiveness of the proposed workflow localization method.

The Semantic Web approach based on the ontological representation of knowledge domains seems very useful for improving document management practices, the formal and machine-mediated communication among people and work team and supports knowledge based productive processes. The effectiveness of a semantic information management system is set by the quality of the ontology. The development of ontologies requires experts on the application domain and on the technical issues as representation formalism, languages, and tools. In this chapter a methodology for ontology developing is presented. It is structured in six phases (feasibility study, expliciting of the knowledge base, logic modelling, implementation, test, extension, and maintaining) and highlights the flow of information among phases and activities, the external variables required for completing the project, the human and structural resources involved in the process. The defined methodology is independent of any particular knowledge field, so it can be used whenever an ontology is required. The methodology for ontology developing was implemented in a prototypal workflow management system that will be deployed in the back office area of the SIMS (Semantic Information Management System), a technological platform that is going to be developed for the research project DISCoRSO founded by the Italian Minister of University and Research. The main components of the workflow management system are the editor and the runtime environment. The Enhydra JaWE and Enhydra Shark are well suited as they implement the workflow management standards (languages), they are able to manage complex projects (many tasks, activities, people) and they are open source.

In order to meet the factory detection requirements of the rotary electronic dobby, a new design of the detecting platformfor the rotary electronic dobby was proposed in the present study. It was composed with three main modules to meetthe different levels of detecting process all over the factory, including the embedded control system, human machineinterface system and the information management system. For the information management system of the dobbyworkshop, the proposed platform performed the remote management, results monitor, and data analysis to the dobbymanufactured at the factory. For the operators of the dobby detecting process, the human machine interface systemrealized the edit of pattern, the upload and download of the pattern data based through Wi-Fi, the control of motor speed, the test process record and the upload of the test results. Moreover, the embedded control system was developed andbuilt to realize the real-time control to electromagnet and swing arms of dobby according to the pattern stored in flashchip and status display of the detecting results on the platform. The designed detecting platform in this article can bewidely applied in the factory for detection of the rotary electronic dobby. The reliability and practicability of the proposedplatform have been confirmed by the practical application of the dobby manufacturing enterprise.

Rough set theory as a new hotspot in the field of artificial intelligence, it can effectively deal with incomplete and uncertain knowledge representation and reasoning. Rough set theory is built on the basis of the classification mechanism, it will be classified understand in a particular space on the equivalence relation, equivalence relations constitute the division of space. The paper puts forward using rough set to construct the enterprise information management system. The experiment shows the CPU Time in the attribute numbers, indicating that Jelonek is superior to rough set in building enterprise information management system.

Purpose – Public sector organisations in the developing world contexts have hugely invested in procuring information management systems such as the electronic document and records management system (EDRMS). The procurement and implementation of these systems come at a huge cost to taxpayers. Unfortunately, most of these systems remain white elephants due to reluctance by the anticipated users to adopt and use them in their information management endeavours. This study aims to understand Action Officers’ perceptions of, adoption and/or usage of the document workflow management system (DWMS) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Botswana. The DWMS is one type of EDRMS. Design/methodology/approach – The survey uses a questionnaire distributed in Gaborone, Botswana to gather data on the perceptions of anticipated users of the DWMS. The study used a modified form of UTAUT as a theoretical lens to explore user’s perception on the adoption and use of DWMS at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Botswana. The population of the study was 68. A total of 53 (86.89 per cent) out of 61 users of DWMS were purposively sampled and responded to the questionnaire. The rest took part in interviews. Findings – Negative attitudes to computers, computer anxiety, the complexity of DWMS and its incompatibility to current working practices influences Action and Records Officers’ unwillingness to adopt and use the DWMS. Research limitations/implications – This study was limited to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI)’s Department of Corporate Services, so its findings cannot be statistically generalized to the MTI as a whole. Another limitation relates to the secretive nature of staff in some government departments which lead them to provide partial information related to the study. Finally, the additional technology adoption factors discovered from interviews (i.e. computer anxiety, incompatibility of DWMS to current work practices, negative attitudes to system use and complexity of the system) have not been empirically tested to ascertain their validity. This provides an opportunity for a future study to empirically test the said additional factors. Practical implications – To mitigate the lower DWMS adoption and usage, robust change management and communication were identified as some of the critical factors that should be considered. The identified factors may be used in drafting a model to aid the implementation of DWMS in Botswana or in a contextually similar environment in the developing world. Originality/value – This study provides empirical evidence from an original study.

The place of information management system`s subsystems of trade organizations logistics in the enterprise information system is considered here. Particular attention is paid to the description of subsystems and the definition of their functional characteristics when a single structured information management system of the enterprise is creating. And also the tasks of each subsystem are defined in the context of the general information management system. A hypothesis is suggested that information and management systems relating to the various groups are integrated into a single information space based on vertical and horizontal integration. The needs for secured software products that satisfy the needs during the construction of logistics information systems are searched here The technical advantages and opportunities are determined with the continuous and efficient construction of logistic processes.
