The investigated existing footbridge, on which the dynamic experimental analysis was concentrated, was built across Vltava River in Prague in 1984. Since putting into operation, the footbridge was apparently sensitive to dynamic excitation by passing pedestrians. Above that in the course of its existence the considerable part of the footbridge deck was overflowed by two great floods that happened in August 2002 and in June 2013. After the second flood, a visible damage on the footbridge deck was detected by a visual inspection. The described dynamic experiment was divided into two basic parts. The experimental modal analysis was carried out first and then the dynamic load test was realized. It was focused to the deck vibrations induced by different pedestrians groups. It was found out the footbridge deck vertical accelerations exceed the pedestrian comfort limit in some normal situations. On the basis of comparison between modes of natural vibrations, which were evaluated by the experimental modal analysis and the equivalent ones from previous dynamic experiments, it was validated that the discovered deck damage caused the partial variation of fundamental dynamic footbridge behavior.

The investigated footbridge across Vltava River in Prague was built in 1984. Almost the entire footbridge structure was overflowed by the extreme flood in August 2002 and the substantial part of the footbridge deck was overflowed afterwards by the great flood in June 2013 again. A significant damage on the footbridge deck was found out by a visual inspection of the load-bearing structure of the footbridge after the second flood. The basic objective of the performed experimental modal analysis was the initial experimental reliability verification of the obviously damaged footbridge structure. The measured natural frequencies and modes were compared with results of the several dynamic tests which were performed regularly during the lifetime of the footbridge. The localization of potential invisible damages was carried out. The recommendations for the range and the arrangement of the static load test, which was performed afterwards for fundamental reliability assessment of a footbridge structure, were made on the basis of the evaluated results of the experimental modal analysis.

This paper aims on comparison between virtual modal analysis and experimental modal analysis of a PWS rotor. A virtual simulation and an experimental analysis were conducted in order to successfully determine the eigen modes of the PWS rotor. Those frequencies are a good thing to know in case of a new PWS development.

Abstract Experimental modal analysis of a violin with three different tensions of a bass bar has been performed. The bass bar tension is the only intentionally introduced modification of the instrument. The aim of the study was to find differences and similarities between top plate modal parameters determined by a bass bar perfectly fitting the shape of the top plate, the bass bar with a tension usually applied by luthiers (normal), and the tension higher than the normal value. In the modal analysis four signature modes are taken into account. Bass bar tension does not change the sequence of mode shapes. Changes in modal damping are insignificant. An increase in bass bar tension causes an increase in modal frequencies A0 and B(1+) and does not change the frequencies of modes CBR and B(1-).

Experimental modal analysis is a relatively young part of dynamics, which deals with the vibration modes identification of machines or their parts. Its development has started since the beginning of the eighties, when the computers hardware equipment has improved and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) could be used for the results determination. Nowadays it provides an uncountable set of vibration analysis possibilities starting with conventional contact transducers of acceleration and ending with modern noncontact optical methods. In this contribution we mention the use of high-speed digital image correlation by experimental determination of mode shapes and modal frequencies. The aim of our work is to create a program application called Modan 3D enabling the performing of experimental modal analysis and operational modal analysis. In this paper the experimental modal analysis of a thin steel sample performed with Q-450 Dantec Dynamics is described. In Modan 3D the experiment data were processed and the vibration modes were determined. The reached results were verified by PULSE modulus specialized for mechanical vibration analysis.
