This paper introduce the working principle and classification of air source heat pump water heater. Thermodynamic calculation of the air source heat pump water heater is carried out, such as air source heat pump water heating coefficient, energy saving effect, and the cooling effect of the surrounding environment, and primary energy utilization of heating conditions of several forms. The primary energy utilization rate of air source heat pump water heater is the highest, and showing a good energy-saving.

In this paper the system of air-source heat pump water heater(ASHPWH) using R134A to get 75°C hot water is proposed. The experiments on the performance of ASHPWH are conducted in two typical conditions, one for 7°C dry bulb temperature and 6°C wet bulb temperature, the other for 20°C dry bulb temperature and 15°C wet bulb temperature. In addition the variations of the suction temperature, the exhaust temperature, the suction pressure, the exhaust pressure, the transient heat capacity, the input power and COPs with the changing of the hot water tank temperature are analyzed. The results show that 75°C hot water can be produced steadily and the COPs are 2.84 and 3.68 respectively in two different conditions, therefore the ASHPWH has good energy saving effect.

A household dual source heat pump water heater is proposed to utilize the energy of wastewater and air heat in a bathroom. The heat pump system integrates a wastewater source heat pump (WSHP), air source heat pump (ASHP), and a preheater. This aims at energy saving through recovering the heat of wastewater and ventilation air during the bathing process. The experiment was conducted to verify the feasibility of a dual heat source heat pump water heater system in a bath unit. It is found that the system can achieve an average coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.80 and 4.38 with and without preheater, respectively. At a bath water temperature of 40 °C, a flow rate of 6 L/min, and a room temperature of 26.5 °C, the COP of system can reach 6.08, which shows a significantly promising method for energy saving in-house.

Under the situation of energy crisis, air source heat pumps are paid more attention recently. In terms of energy saving, the feasibility and performance of boiled water machine with air source heat pump are studied by experiment in this paper. The results are as follows: the best outlet temperature of heat pump is 55°C in winter, and that is 65°C in other seasons correspondingly. Electromagnetic heater is used as the accessorial heating method, which can heat water to 95°C so as to be fit to drinking. Moreover, the energy saving effect of the unit is remarkable. At the end of the paper, the preliminary conception of structure and automatic control is proposed.

A practical indirect expansion solar-air source heat pump water heater (IESASHPWH) is used as the measured object. Several feasible performance optimization schemes are proposed in this paper through the fundamental performance and theoretical analysis of the system structure. Then several tests are conducted to test feasibility of the schemes and effect of performance optimization of the schemes through simulating different temperature and climate conditions.
