The paper provides the results of statistical research of the mechanical properties of deformed semi-finished titanium alloys Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al, based on the industrial data analysis. The research objects were 1.635 forging products, made of the alloys ВТ6 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Ti-10-2-3 (Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al), manufactured in compliance with the industrial technology. The statistical research conducted with the help of the applied software package "Stadia 7" included the primary statistical manipulation and a correlation-regression analysis with the help of standard methods. The authors established correlation relationships between the mechanical properties of such semi-finished products containing alloying elements, admixtures and the industrial modes of the strengthening heat treatment. It was revealed that the variations in the grade composition, hardening and aging temperature can determine 10-40% of variable forging mechanical properties. The key variation is pre-determined by the factors the authors failed to identify on the basis of the data research.

Any improvement on the service life of tools reduces the tooling costs, and assists to increase labor productivity by decreasing the needs for either the tools’ re-grinding or their replacement. This requires, among others, an enhancement of the key mechanical properties of the tool materials, by newer treatment route development. The current paper describes the impact of different heat treatment regimes, including austenitizing; sub-zero treatments; and tempering on the hardness, flexural strength, and toughness of tool steel, which is demonstrated upon Vanadis 6 steel. An improvement in the hardness due to the sub-zero treatment is reported, but it is also pointed out that both the flexural strength and fracture toughness of the material cannot be inevitably deteriorated by the application of this processing. Finally, it is demonstrated that both of these properties, despite their conflicting relationship, in most cases, can be improved simultaneously when the material is treated in the proper way.

Presents a literature review in the field of methods for strengthening titanium and its alloys by introducing various refractory particles into the matrix. The main problematic issues related to the chemical nature of refractory particles and titanium alloys that arise during hardening are briefly described. The main structural, physical and mechanical properties and morphology of such metal composite materials are described. The dependence of the influence of various refractory particles and their amount, as well as the effect of heat treatment on the physical and mechanical properties of microns based on titanium alloys, is presented.
